Nerja is a popular resort on the far easterly point of the Costa del Sol. Somehow; despite the tourism the sleepy fishing village has still retained some of its original charm, the old part of the town has narrow, winding streets with whitewashed houses. In amongst these streets you can find shops selling local art and craftwork, jewellery and local products. The food in Nerja is exquisite, a fantastic mixture of international dishes with some of the best seafood in the Mediterranean, caught locally. The main tourist attractions of the area, are the Caves of Nerja. They contain many impressive stalactites and stalagmites and an enormous cavern, which is used for concerts during the summer months. There are also a number of 20,000-year-old paintings. For the more lively holidaymakers the nightlife can be found in the Tuti Fruti Square where the disco pubs are located. This variety of activities mixes with some of the mildest climates in Spain makes Nerja a perfect place to rent a holiday villa. |
