| Isère is a department, in the Rhône-Alpes region in the east of France named after the Isère River. Isère includes a part of the French Alps. The highest point in the department is the summit of La Meije at 3,987 meters and is known for attracting large numbers of Ski holidaymakers. Isere is famous for many Ski resorts although it is also famous for hosting the Coupe Icare, an annual festival of free flight, such as paragliding and hang-gliding, held at the world-renowned paragliding site at Lumbin.
With a good choice of restaurants and cafes, there is plenty opportunity to sample the local cuisine including the Local cheeses - Bleu du Vercours-Sassenage, an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée cheese, and Saint-Marcellin. There is a wide variety of holiday accommodation available such as holiday cottages, gites, and self-catering rentals, which can be rented throughout the year.
