Lazio is divided into five provinces. In the north and west are the Provinces of Viterbo and Rieti. In the centre of Lazio, the Region's administrative centre is the Province of Rome, then to the south lie the Provinces of Latina and Frosinone. The Regions main tourist attraction by far is Rome, known as the Eternal city and is one of the worlds top tourist destinations. A city littered with history and culture, Places of interest include the Roman Forum, Capitoline Hill, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the Pantheon all of which reveal so much about the history and culture of this great city. Other attractions include the Colosseum & Castel Sant’Angelo, which attract tourists from all over the globe. Between galleries, churches, historic palazzi, ruins, castles, and tombs, the Eternal City has many more monuments and a museum than the average visitor has time to see.
Viterbo, to the north, is a historic town with a beautiful, well-preserved medieval centre. Its province offers a wealth of tourist attractions: the lovely Lakes Vico and Bolsena, splendid gardens at the Villa Lante, the grand palace at Caprarola, Etruscan remains at Tarquinia and Vulci, thermal springs and famous wine whilst the Province of Latina runs for 100km along the coast, between Rome and Campania, and includes stretches of sandy beach and charming resorts like Sperlonga, and the Pontine Islands. The region of Lazio has so much to offer and holidaymakers will be spoilt for choice for things to do and places to visit and holidaymakers may feel that one visit is not enough to sample the region.
