A delightful two-bedroomed cottage with a private, south-facing terrace built into the side of a hill, in the tranquil village of Passavant, just South of the Loire river, near Saumur. It has a wonderful view of a Norman castle immediately opposite and looks out on the peaceful, rolling Layon Valley, surrounded by vinyards.
Châteaux, historic towns and markets provide plenty of interest. The area also offers walking and cycling countryside. Saumur, Angers and (a bit further afield) Nantes and Tours offer shopping and tourist sites and major castles such as Chenonceau, Amboise and Azay le Rideau are within easy driving distance.
Other nearby attractions include:
Doue la Fontaine with its famous zoo, rose gardens and Troglodyte caves. La Parc de la Vallee, a safe playground for adults and childrens, only 15 minutes away. The Vendee sea-side resorts of St. Jean de Monts and La Tranche are well within reach for a day trip. Local markets in Doue La Fontaine, Thouars and Cholet.

The cottage has two good-sized bedrooms, sleeping up to 6 comfortably. The ground floor is open plan and has all modern kitchen appliances as well as comfy seating and television with integral DVD.
The area is rolling countryside, good for cycling and walking - as well as eating and drinking. It is in one of the main wine growing areas and is in striking distance of the glorious châteaux of the Loire. It is particularly close to Saumur, Angers and Fontevrault, as well as Doué zoo.
Popular châteaux of the Loire (such as Chenonceau, Ambois and Azay le Rideau) are within easy driving distance, as is the actractive market town of Thouars.

Local activities in and around Doue La Fontaine, Charente/Vendee/W. Loire
There is a small, attractive plan d'eau less than 15 km away (St Paul du Bois) and a larger one north of Vihier. There are numerous châteaux within easy distance, including Saumur, Angers, Montrueil-Bellay and the Abbey of Fontevrault. The Tank Museum (Musée des Blindés) and the Mushroom museums in Saumur are worth a visit, as are a number of the Troglodyte dwellings throughout the area. Most local villages and towns have attractive markets on one day of the week.
