'Les Portails' is a converted farmhouse with its own open sided barn & half an acre of garden. The house has been carefully restored & whilst retaining many original features & furnished substantially in local traditional style it offers comfortable accommodation for 8. Accessible directly from the garden, the kitchen has a traditional fireplace with a wood burning stove, a large dining table and chairs, a range of kitchen units including a fridge/freezer, calor gas cooker with a very large oven and grill, microwave/ combination oven and an automatic washing machine. It is very well supplied with ample crockery, glassware and kitchen equipment even for the most enthusiastic of cooks!
The master bedroom opens off the Kitchen/Dining Room, with its own window onto the garden. This room has a double bed, wardrobe etc. The en-suite bathroom is fully tiled and has a bath with shower attachment, basin, bidet and WC.
Accessible via a staircase from the kitchen, the sittingroom has beautiful views over the garden to a picturesque. There is also double sofa bed in the lounge offering flexible accommodation. On the south side of the room a doorway leads to the terrace. The corridor leading to Bedrooms 2 and 3 opens off the lounge. A travel cot & highchair are available.
The terrace also has an external staircase leading to the garden. There is a full set of patio furniture for dining.
Bedroom 2 has a double bed. Bedroom 3 is a large room with a double & two single beds. Both rooms have generous storage.
The upstairs shower room is fully tiled. It has a WC, wash hand basin and enclosed shower.

La Fouillade has a larger range of shops, an excellent butchers, a bakers and a small supermarket. For major shopping you may prefer to go to Villefranche, 8 miles from 'Les Portails', where there is a wide range of good shops. Don't miss the market on Thursday mornings, centred in the 'Place Notre Dame'.
There is a wide choice of restaurants both in Villefranche and within a reasonable distance from 'Les Portails'. For the wine lover Cahors and Gaillac are the regional wines. There are, of course, other less well-known local wines. All very drinkable!
If you want an energetic holiday available sports include walking, tennis, riding, fishing, canoeing, water-skiing, cycling, fishing & golf (30 miles).
The Aveyron is one of the largest departments and one of the least populated. Few regions can boast a richer variety of historic sites, dating back to prehistoric times, or a more dramatic and varied landscape, from volcanic plateaux to limestone causes, from magnificent gorges to pleasant little valleys.
The fortified town of Villefranche de Rouergue was founded in 1252 by Alphonse de Poitiers. It sits on the right bank of the Aveyron. The 14th century gothic church dominates its historic centre, with a grid iron pattern of narrow streets and the beautiful arcaded 'Place de Notre Dame'.
As the river flows lazily to the south, it passes through the magnificent gorge of the Aveyron River. Along its banks 10 kms from the house is Najac, a beautiful medieval village. Built on a long narrow outcrop of limestone, its castle and the church soar majestically above the river.
Half day & day visits include Albi the city famous for Toulouse Lautrec & its brick cathedral, the County town of Rodez, Regional capital Toulouse, a magnificent city, St Cirq Lapopie a beautiful village alongside the river Lot, Figeac picturesque stone town. Further afield discover the Auvergne, Languedoc & the Pyrenees.

Rental Notes: The rent is for 8 people. Any number over 8 is subject to additional rent by prior agreement. Rental includes three-bedroomed cottage,outbuildings, garden & pool. electricity, water, calor gas,furniture, equipment, cutlery, crockery & cleaning materials for 8 . Arrival 16:00 on the first Saturday departure 11:00 on the last Saturday. Guests should leave the house clean and tidy. Guests should replace broken crockery, glass. We will accept provisional bookings, which must be confirmed in writing, with a non refundable 25% deposit. We strongly advise you, to take out appropriate insurance. The balance is due 8 weeks before the first day of the rented period. Upon receipt of the total rental plus a refundable deposit of £200, access details including maps and keys will be sent to you. You are asked to return the keys immediately and your £200 deposit will then be refunded in full, if the house is left in good order.
