La Casita de Platero - Beautifully Converted Stable
Cottage with 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4, Garden, Swimming Pool
In the heart of the Aracena Nature Reserve, on the 150 acre Buenvino Estate, this used to be the old stable where Platero, our donkey lived. When a neighbour bought him from us to keep his other donkeys company, we converted his stable and loft into a lovely holiday house.
The double room has a king-size bed, and a bathroom with tub/shower, handbasin, and WC. The twin room has a walk-in shower, handbasin, and WC. All the bedroom furniture is handmade and hand-painted in Sevilla.
The large eat-in kitchen has a marble work-top, electric fan oven, gas hob, dishwasher, and clothes washer. There is an extendible kitchen table which seats eight in case you feel like asking the neighbours in to eat with you!

The sitting room is small and has a wood-fired stove. Logs are provided. Outside the house there is an orchard meadow with old apple trees and fig trees. We sometimes have the sheep in there, and you will here the tinkle of the sheep bells as they graze. It is a great place for birdwatching or for looking at wildflowers.
The small swimming pool (3 metres by 5 metres) is perfect for cooling off on those hot lazy summer days. There is a high stone wall around the pool and garden area. This is for added privacy as an old mule trail runs from behind the house and occasionaly someone may walk past.
You might enjoy a walk to Los Marines or Fuenteheridos, two charmingly typical white-washed pueblos -- each about a 20-minute walk. Los Marines is quieter while Fuenteheridos bustles with life. There are three or four restaurants to choose from there. Most of them serve the local specialties of Jamón and cerdo Iberico.
Aracena, the local market town, is only a 6km-drive away. Here, there are great shops and restaurants. The people are very friendly and welcome outsiders. In all our houses we provide a list of recommended local eating places and shops, as well as information on fiestas and ferias.
