Culkein Lodge is situated in one of the most beautiful and remote areas of Scotland overlooking the picturesque Eddrachillis Bay in Sutherland. The cottage is spacious and appointed to a high standard. It is warm and cosy with a real log fire and central heating and is ideal at any time of the year.
The lodge is situated right down by the waters edge and the evenng sunsets in summer are spectacular. For those who own and love kayaks this is the most magical bay in which to enjoy exploring.
Mountain lovers will be spoilt for choice with the Sutherland mountains being so close; Quinag; Canisp; Suilven, Cul Mhor, Cul beag and Stac Pollaidh. Just north can be found Britains highest waterfall at the head of Loch Glen Coul.
Ths is one of the last true wilderness areas in Europe and for those with an appreciation of wild places will not disapppoint.
The sun room is spacious and warm and offers some additional sleeping space for teenagers or children.
Ground Floor: Spacious kitchen with dining table for 10; large sitting room with seating for 7 and an open fire; large sun room with seating for 6 and a table football game; large utility room with plenty of food storage, laundry facilities and sink; single bedroom with a pull out bed underneath the single bed with comfy mattress; shower room with shower, wash hand basin and toilet.
First Floor: Bathroom with bath, wash hand basin and toilet; double bedroom with king size bed, a shower in a cubicle in this room and a wash hand basin; double bedroom with wash hand basin; twin bedroom with tv. The kitchen is well equipped with a large 'Professional' gas cooker with large electric fan assisted oven; microwave; dishwasher; coffee maker and large fridge/freezer.
Situated on its own and close to the sea it offers the perfect place for a 'get away from it all' holiday. The wildlife to be seen is plentiful from the seals which frolic in the water at the front of the house to the red deer which roam the hills behind. The beaches in this area are white sandy stretches of sand and pale green and ble clear waters. It is unusual to find more than a handful of people on the beach at any one time and you will frequently have the beach to yourself.

Local activities in and around Drumbeg, Highlands & Islands
Mountaineering - some of Scotland's finest mountains are on the doorstep of Culkein Lodge including Suilven, Canisp, Quinag, Stac Pollaidh etc. Coastal walks are endless and fascinating along this coast. Canoeing in the bay.
Fishing - sea fishing trips may be able to be arranged. Beach combing and rock pooling. There are several wonderful sandy beaches close by which are great for children and adults alike.
Bird watching - visit Handa island sanctuary to see thousands of seabirds including puffins, guillemots, gannets and skuas. This can be done in a day and is highly recommended.
Sailing - launch your own boat from the jetty. Alternatively you can tke a sail out from either Lochinver, Ullapool or Kylesku. From Kylesku you can sail up Loch Glencoul to see Britains highest waterfall. Excellent restaurants in Drumbeg and also at Kylesku. Drive to the north coast and visit the famous Cape Wrath Lighthouse and Smoo Caves at Durness.
Ullapool, 45 miles away, is a popular visitor attraction with its lovely Ceilidh Place centre offering good food and entertainment and many shops and attractions. Wildlife sailings can be taken from here.
Closer to Culkein Lodge is the lovely Tiny Tea Shop which in Spring and Summer is a magical place to sit out in the garden for tea. Achens Bookshop a little further away is called the most remote bookshop in Britain and is well worth a visit. Inverness airport is approximately 100 miles from Drumbeg.

Rental Notes: The house is let from Saturday to Saturday. The arrival time is 16.00 and you are asked to leave by 10.00.
Linen and towels are included in the rental as is electricity but you will need to pre-order coal for the fire.
The housekeeper will meet you on arrival or you will be advised where to collect the keys.
Groceries can be preordered at Drumbeg Stores if required.
