Set on a quiet country lane just outside the small village of Vernantes, eight miles from the chateau town of Saumur, this charming cottage is stylish and comfortable and combines traditional charm with luxury conveniences. It has been lovingly renovated. It's location is perfect for wine-tasting, chateau tours, walking, fishing, cycling, water sports, golf and shopping.
Le Petit Saule has been lovingly restored with great attention to detail. No expense has been spared to offer luxury self catering accommodation.
The spacious kitchen is fully equipped with an electric oven, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer, in addition to essentials like kettle and toaster. Off the kitchen is a downstairs shower room, featuring a double shower unit and WC. The dining area has a farmhouse kitchen table which comfortably sits six.
The lounge features a traditional-style tuffeau stone fireplace with woodburner and comfortable three-piece suite, the sofa of which converts into a comfy double bed. There is also satellite TV, a DVD player and stereo system. Ideal for relaxing after a hard day wine tasting or chateau-hopping. You can also take advantage of the library of books, games and information guide provided.
Up the wooden staircase you will find a well-equipped bathroom with bath, shower, washbasin, WC and hairdryer. There are two large bedrooms with tuffeau stone feature walls and fascinating roof beams. No need to worry if you are of more than average height since there is plenty of head-room. One bedroom contains a double bed, the other two singles with plenty of wardrobe and other storage space in both.
Outside, there is a large garden with views over the surrounding countryside and a barn. The barn is part-filled with logs for those who want to take advantage of the woodburner in the lounge (although the property is also centrally heated). Luxury garden furniture is provided to enable you to dine ‘alfresco’ and take advantage of the long Summer evenings, along with a barbecue. In addition, there is off-road parking for several vehicles.

Garden, BBQ, Parking, Garden Furniture. There is a barn to the left of the entrance gate, where wood is stored for the fire, and is ideal for storing garden furniture and bicycles.

Local activities in and around Vernantes, Charente/Vendee/W. Loire
Vernantes has all the basics. You will find a restaurant, boulangerie, boucherie, pharmacie, post office and several bars and a supermarket just outside the village.
Saumur is approximately 10 minutes dirve and offers spectacular river views, a magnificent chateau and many boutiques, restaurants, theatres, bars and historic buildings, as well as a superb market on Saturdays. It is the home of the National Riding School and French Cavalry (Cadre Noir) - demonstrations are held regularly throughout the Summer.
The Loire is a great region for wine enthusiasts, being dotted with vineyards boasting some world renowned wines such as Vouvray and some lesser known finds such as 'Bouvet'.
The region is steeped in history and provides many attractions with it's museums, abeys, medieval churches, cathedrals and troglodyte caves all close by.
Ideally situated for visiting vineyards and chateaux. Facilities nearby include water sports, golf, horse riding and the terrain is ideal for cycling and walking. Futuroscope is only about an hour's drive.

Should you need a clean during your visit this can be arranged at a small charge. Departure time is 10am on Saturday on week of departure unless otherwise agreed. This will be our home and we hope your will respect and enjoy it as such.
