This delightful detached villa of 300m² in the grounds of an 18th Century estate is a former dairy, recently converted to the very highest standards to create a stylish and spacious holiday home in a peaceful rural location five minutes from the sea and close to local amenities. Comfortably sleeps eight plus a baby or two (Cot, high chair & baby listeners available).
With its own extensive private grounds and large heated swimming pool, Le Grand Theuillac offers its guests privacy and seclusion with a wide variety of sightseeing and leisure opportunities nearby. A large private garden at the rear of the villa has sun loungers, covered terrace and built-in barbecue.

The lounge has an enormous arched picture window with doors opening out onto the side garden and overlooking open countryside, giving the room a light and open feeling. It is very comfortably furnished and has an open log fire as well as under-floor heating. A high quality sound system and colour TV with DVD player is provided, and Sky TV with English channels is included.
Three double bedrooms (one converts to twins) plus one twin. All have plenty of space and two have French doors opening onto the garden. Two luxurious fully tiled bathrooms with large baths, separate showers and twin washbasins. Separate WC also.
12m x 6m solar heated pool a short way from the villa (max 50m) with its own sun loungers, parasols and changing facilities. Gardens on 3 sides make the villa suitable for children and give a feeling of privacy. The estate has seven acres of private land surrounded by open countryside so it is private and very peaceful.
Charente-Maritime has its own micro-climate and enjoys an average of 2500 hours of sunshine per year. At around 5 hours from St Malo and an hour from Bordeaux and La Rochelle airports, Le Grand Theuillac is also very accessible.
There are good safe sandy beaches within a few minutes drive and the fabulous Atlantic beaches are only 15 minutes further away. Here you can relax or take part in a wide range of water sports. The villa provides an ideal base for walking, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, wine tasting, bird watching, canoeing, fishing, golfing, sand yachting, eating, and more.
The resident English Estate Managers are on hand should you need assistance and, at certain times during the season, they offer additional services such as the occasional meal delivered to the villa, supermarket shopping and accompanied bike rides incorporating visits to local places of interest.

The large swimming pool is completely fenced and has a child-proof gate. Apart from stepped front and rear terraces and two steps from dining room to lounge, the villa is on one level throughout.
Local activities in and around Cozes, Charente/Vendee/W. Loire
Cozes - 2kms - has a full range of good independent shops, an ancient covered market and a very good Champion supermarket so, unless you like the hypermarché (nearest in Royan), there would be no need to go further. Here you will also find a monument to the original master of Le Grand Theuillac, a republican mariner and one-time prisoner of England during one of our many scuffles with France! Don’t panic, things have been smoothed over in the last 215 years!
Talmont – 6 kms - Voted one of the most beautiful villages in France, this is our nearest seaside village, a bastide built in 1284 by Edward 1st of England and its appearance has hardly changed since then. Inside the walls, 17th and 18th century houses surround the harbour and hollyhocks ("rose trémière") grow wild in huge abundance throughout the little streets and lanes. All this and wonderful sea views make Talmont a lovely place for a leisurely stroll, especially in the evening.
Meschers - 9 kms - Only ten minutes away, the village of Meschers has the finest local beaches, with several sandy coves ideal for swimming and sunbathing. You can also visit caves hollowed out of the white cliffs by wind and waves.
Saint-Georges-de-Didonne – 13.5 kms - Just a little way up the coast, St G de D has fine white sandy beaches backed by dunes and pine trees.
Saintes – 25 kms - An interesting Roman town with wonderful architecture and narrow streets with interesting shops and street cafés, it still contains much of its Roman past.
La Palmyre Zoo – 32 kms - Half an hour up the coast, La Palmyre is regarded as Europe’s best open-air Zoo and is known for its commitment to conservation. It is apparently France’s most popular tourist attraction after the Eiffel Tower!
Cognac is a beautiful town with well tended parks, markets and three famous distilleries, Remy Martin, Hennessey and Martell, where you can take guided tours, taste the delicious Cognac and buy at discounted prices.

Rental Notes: Villa rental is usually Saturday to Saturday although additional days may be booked subject to availability. We ask for a deposit of 20% with booking and the balance eight weeks prior to arrival.
A returnable security deposit of £250 is also required to cover accidental damage to or at the property, any additional cleaning, the cost of telephone calls and/or other services not included in the rental price (although we won’t chase you for the occasional broken wine glass – we accept small breakages as part of holiday life!)
We try to be helpful with legitimate or unavoidable cancellations and if we re-let the period we will happily refund your payment, less any direct costs incurred in reletting.
Keys are collected from the Estate Managers by arrangement. Your villa will be ready from 4.00pm on arrival day, and should be vacated by 10.00am on departure day.
Winter lets and off-season long weekends are available at negotiable prices.
