The area is ideal for walking, fishing and sailing. Golfers will enjoy the 9-hole course at Traigh, three miles away. Buzzards regularly patrol the skies above Bourblach and white-tailed sea eagles have been known to nest in the area.

Sail from Mallaig or Arisaig to explore Skye, Rum or Eigg. Board a high-speed inflatable to go whale spotting in season.

Morar is easily accessible by road from both Glasgow (150 miles) and Edinburgh (170) and by train, with the Fort William to Morar leg covered by a steam train during the summer months.

Bourblach is set in its own fenced off grounds in the midst of a working croft. The house nestles into the hillside, and enjoys truly spectacular views across the estuary of the River Morar with its white sands and ever-changing vista. The house itself is furnished and decorated to a very high standard. The accommodation consists of: An entry vestibule with an assortment of walking sticks, kites and a beach toy hamper. The short hallway gives access to both the farmhouse style kitchen and the large living room/dining room. The kitchen has a pine table and an oil-fired Aga-style cooker. There is also a conventional electric cooker, microwave, huge fridge, washing machine and dishwasher. The living room has an open fire and the dining room table seats up to 12.

There is a family room off the kitchen with Sky TV, a sound system and bookcase. Between this room and the back door lies the ground floor bathroom with walk-in shower wc etc. Upstairs are the three large family sized bedrooms each with its own wash-hand basin. The bathroom has a large corner bath wc etc. There is double glazing throughout and full central heating. The kitchen and living room both have a French door leading to a small patio. There is a built-in bar-b-q and patio in the back garden, and a garden shed with patio furniture.

Local activities in and around Mallaig, Highlands & Islands

Activities abound when based at Bourblach. But one of the house's prime assets is its peace and tranquillity, a haven of beauty and serenity set in stunning scenery. It’s the ideal place to unwind, spoilt for choice between eating out in nearby Mallaig and cooking some of the fresh-off-the-boat seafood available in Mallaig.

Bourblach is perfect for a traditional beach holiday with young children - its beaches are rated amongst the cleanest in Europe. It’s great for walking sailing, fishing or golfing for all ages. There are spectacular walks including one along the banks of Loch Morar, the deepest stretch of fresh water in Europe, and reputed home of Nessie’s sister Morag. Walkers can cut across the narrow isthmus to Loch Nevis and catch the MV Shearwater back to Morar. The Sheerwater can also be used for day trips to Inverie on Knoydart, location of the Old Forge, officially the most remote pub in Britain. There is bunkhouse and other accommodation at Inverie for those who wish to stay longer to explore an area dubbed 'the last wilderness'.

There is a modest sea-life centre in Mallaig, while the heritage museum charts the port’s history including its heyday at the turn of the century when the herring were plentiful and the railways were built to take the huge catches to market. There is another visitor centre at Arisaig.

Bustling Fort William is 45 miles away, an hour’s drive or a similar time on a line which featured in the Great Railway Journeys of the World. Fort William is a medium-sized town with supermarkets, and a full range of shops including outdoor clothing and equipment specialists. The spectacular Aonach Mhor cable car runs summer and winter. Pony-trekking and mountain bike hire are both available, and there is a large public swimming pool. Call in at the Glenfinnan Visitor Centre rallying point for Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Jacobite rebellion. Glenfinnan is also the site of the railway viaduct featured in the Harry Potter films.
