A pretty farmhouse set on an organic farm with spectacular views of the mountains in front, the valley below and the coast beyond. A quiet, rural location, off the beaten path, yet within minutes of beaches, villages and shopping. "La Cumbre" offers a rustic country setting true to its original nature and history with all the comforts of home. We offer special rates to couples outside July and August.
La Cumbre accommodates up to 6 people in a two-story, 4 bedroom, 1 bathroom farmhouse. Lovingly restored with many of its original features this house makes for a comfortable stay in a quiet, rural setting. Found on an organic small holding we, the owners (Spanish and American), keep a few cows, sheep and chickens.
Renovated first as our own home the kitchen is well-equipped for those fond of cooking and fresh herbs are available for the picking. The open downstairs is spacious, sunny and comfortable with great views and a wood burning stove to keep it warm on chilly evenings. Upstairs are the 4 bedrooms and the full bath. The house is nicely furnished with a mix of antiques and traditional Asturian pieces all working together to make it feel like home. We pay special attention to good beds and reading lamps.
Because we are committed to protecting the environment as much as possible and enjoy our organic lifestyle our linens are washed in natural soaps and sun dried. The house has features which save on energy and we recycle. The chickens are the first step in the composting process. We do not own a tractor or heavy farm machinery therefore the place is doubly safe for children since there is no through traffic.
We are always happy to pass on our love and enthusiasm for Asturias by helping you with translations, reservatios and tips on where to eat and what to see. We also appreciate hearing about what you've found along the way. Asturias is full of pleasant surprises.

2 Double Bedrooms, 2 Single Bedrooms. Each bedroom has one bed, plenty of closet and/or storage space and decent reading lamps. Quality cotton bed linens provided. Plenty of rugs on the floors. Baby cot and bedding available.

1 Bathroom. Tiled throughout, the bathroom has a bidet and full size bath with shower. Beach and bath towels provided. Electric Heater.
Kitchen:
Cooker, Hob, Microwave, Fridge, Freezer, Washing Machine, Iron. Very well-equipped kitchen open to the dining/livingroom. Beautifully tiled with white marble counters and sink. Remodeled by the owners for their own use you'll find yourself at home preparing meals
General:
Real Fire, House Linen, Towels Provided, Internet Access. The wood stove is the central heat, firewood included. Electric heaters. No AC necessary! Regional info, local tips and maps in house as well as a welcome pack to get you started.
Dining:
Seating for 6. Open plan living/dining room with an extendable dining table comfortably seating 8. Outside table for 6 on front terrace with sun umbrella.
Entertainment:
Terrestrial TV, Video, DVD, Radio, CD System, Board Games. Go for walks from the house on trails leading from the property to include the "Camino de Santiago". English and Spanish books available as well as cards and parchisi. Some CDs and DVDs.
Outside:
Terrace, Garden, BBQ, Parking, Garden Furniture. Set on a quiet hillside enjoy the view from the front terrace! Watch the deer in the meadow below. Open private garden in front of house.

We prefer not to have small children (under 5) in August.
Local activities in and around Luarca, North West
Stay home and enjoy our peaceful setting or in just 10 minutes find yourself choosing a beach or a restaurant. In 20 minutes you can visit the fishing ports of Cudillero or Luarca, both offering a variety of places to eat and shop. Go inland and to see the more traditional areas where dairy farming is still a way of life.
Throughout the summer every town has its festival dedicated to its patron saint with live bands, children's activities and competitions. Market days are not to be missed in certain towns and the flea markets in the beach city of Gijon and Oviedo on Sundays can be fun.
In the area, you'll find horseback riding, walking trails, wildlife viewing, hunting, fishing, Celtic ruins, museums, sightseeing, shopping, swimming, snorkeling, surfing, canoeing and kayaking. Boat tours leave out of Cudillero. We will help you make any arrangements.
The cities of Avilés, Oviedo and Gijon are all less than an hour away by car for nightlife, museums, cultural events and shopping. You may also take the train in.
Our coastline was granted special protected status years ago and included in Asturias' Natural Areas.
Asturias has numerous natural parks all of which are worth a visit.
Somiedo, where the flora and fauna abound, boasts the largest brown bear pobulation in Spain. It is an hour and a half away. There the local cattlemen maintain their thatched mountain cottages and keep their cattle in the high pastures all summer.
Muniellos, one of the oldest forests still remaining in Europe is beautiful and well protected. Reservations are needed and in the summer difficult to come by. Let us know if you are interested in visiting this area two hours drive from us.
Redes and Picos de Europa are two more beautiful and popular natural parks. They are found in Eastern Asturias and while worth a visit are a longer drive from here.
In Ribadesella and Candamo are prehistoric cave drawings available for visiting. Prior reservations are necessary.
Brittany Ferries
Brittany Ferries will bring you from Plymouth to Santander. 2.5 hours away by car.
Easyjet will bring you to Asturias, Bilbao and Madrid from London Stansted for less than you think. They also now connect Madrid to Asturias with more than one flight a day. We are just 30 minutes from the Asturian airport.

Rental Notes: It should be noted that we live up a steep unpaved road which can present a challenge to those unaccustomed to mountain driving the first time up. Everyone gets used to it but if you can't manage there is space to park at the bottom and walk up.
This propery also has 3 more cottages, each sleeping 2, which can be rented in conjunction with La Cumbre if you should wish to holiday with a larger group.

In July and August check-out time is 10:30am and check-in is 4pm. For discounted group rates and short stays of 3 or more nights outside July and August please contact us.
A welcome pack is included containing wine, coffee, teas, bread, milk, sugar and eggs (when our chickens cooperate).
