"Além Do Mar" is a restored traditional house offering self catering accommodation in a comfortable rustic barn conversion for guests and use of a pool.
This is an area famous for its goat breeding, Vale do Cobrão has pleasing slopes and terraces with olive, pine and eucalyptus and Portuguese oak, criss-crossed with paths. Vale do Cobrão enjoys mild winters as well as lots of sun.
Ideal for walking in the local hills of the Serra das Talhadas on public footpaths, painting, fishing, photography, bird watching or just plain relaxing! Tucked away in a pretty working village, surrounded in the traditions of Portuguese country living changed little by the modern world, Jenny and Colin offer a warm welcome. Enjoy a tranquil holiday in beautiful rural Portugal with lots of sun, peaceful surroundings and fresh local produce.
Since 20th September 2006, Alem do Mar is at the heart of the UNESCO "Geopark Naturtejo" the first in Portugal and part of a worldwide net of sites of important geological, archaeological,ecological, historic and cultural areas.

DVD, Radio, Board Games. Beautiful walks for all abilities. Many easy paths, suitable also for off road cycling. Many good and inexpensive bars and restaurants within 30 kms, traditional Portuguese, Brazilian and Italian.
Outside:
Private Pool, Garden, Parking, Garden Furniture. Pool and garden are shared only with the owners. Garden consists of paved area around pool and gravel elsewhere. Street parking. Traffic? Just the occasional goat!

No smoking within the accomodation but allowed in the garden. For active elderly the property is easily accessible and there are walks for all ages and abilities.
Local activities in and around Vila Velha de Rodao, Mountains
Lovely walks in and around the valley using public footpaths with spectacular views and excellent bird watching, photography opportunities. Enjoy a picnic at Portas de Almourao whilst watching the Griffon Vultures fly effortlessly over the hills and down the valleys.
Local fishing with the storks and herons in the River Ocreaza at Foz de Cobrão (3 kms) or Portugal’s main river, Rio Tejo (10 kms). Fishing - licence required. Two Mountain bikes for hire. €7 per bike per day. Three river beaches within easy reach. Visit Castelo Branco, the principal city of the Beira Baixa. A bustling city with a mix of cafes, restaurants and designer/handicraft shops, at the foot of a hill where one can explore the old city and remains of a castle. Have fun at the beautifully designed modern open air public swimming pool at Castelo Branco (28 kms) which is open all day from mid June to mid September. Snack bar on site and evening aqua aerobics class.
Paragliding and parachuting at a small strip about 15 kms
Within an hour’s drive: explore medieval hill castle country on the border with Spain – picturesque villages and towns.
Further afield, about 75 minutes drive, the mountains of the Serra Estrella range. An area of outstanding natural beauty in winter and summer. With limited skiing. Famous for cheese and products made from lambswool and sheepskins.

The only mountain area in Portugal over 2,000 metres high with skiing in winter and many walking areas.
Nearby town with restaurants and shopping. Indoor swimming/gymnasium/sauna and outdoor swimming in summer. The cultural centre of the district, organising outdoor activities throughout the year.
"Portas de Rodao", the town is situated on the bank of the Rio Tejo - ideal base for fishing. Our nearest town with banks, shopping and restaurants. Municipal Centre includes outdoor swimming pool and other sports facilities.

Rental Notes: The property is designed primarily for and priced based on 2 adults per week. Children 5 – 16 years, 20% of adult price. Under 5’s free. Single adult occupancy - 40% discount. Up to two additional adults in a party with full paying guests may stay in the second bedroom which is attached to Bed-Sitting room. Supplements per person per week are Low €40 Mid €50 High €60. Access to kitchen and bathroom from second bedroom is via the Bed-Sitting room. Booking deposit is €35 per person with balance payable one month before arrival date.
