Attractions and nightlife Chamonix boasts one of the highest cable cars in the world at the Aiguille du Midi, which starts from the valley floor and climbs to the summit at 3,842m. Looking from the terraces at the top, you'll experience a fantastic panorama, with only Mont Blanc more prominent on the horizon. The Montenvers train is another main attraction.This funicular railway climbs from the valley floor up to France's largest glacier, the Mer de Glace. For the children, there is nearby Lake Chavant in Les Houches that has tennis couts, kid aventure where kids from the age of 4 years harness up to test their mountaineering skills amongst the trees as well as a great play area. 15 minutes down the valley takes you to the Lacs des Passy when it is just too hot in Chamonix. Here there are swimming areas, beaches and ice-cream cafes, all with breath taking views of Mont Blanc.
