La Bergerie - Romantic 19th c. gîte with stunning views
Cottage with 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 3, Garden, Swimming Pool
The property 'La Bergerie' is part of a former stone built wine farm called 'La Blanchère' set on 6 acres of land. The eldest part of the buildings dates back to the early 18th century. The charming and authentic gîte ‘La Bergerie’ is the smaller of two beautifully and tastefully restored cottages.
The gîte has a lot of character and is peacefully situated in the rolling countryside in the middle of vineyards and plum orchards. Truly the Tuscany of France, as this region is called!
La Bergerie consists of a living room with sleeping couch, large open fireplace and kitchen corner, a spacious double bedroom and a bathroom. The gîte can accomodate a maximum of 3 adults and a baby. A cot can be added on request.
The property has a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys and of the old town and castle of the Dukes of Duras. There is a new swimming pool (10 x 5 m) with roman steps and a lovely terrace with sun loungers. Garden furniture, picnic tables, barbecue and ‘jeu de boules’ court. A very picturesque and relaxed setting for your holidays. Friendly but unobtrusive owners live on site.
New: since August 1st 2008 the gîte disposes of a DSL- network connection. You may use the internet at no extra charges.
Location: The nearest town is Duras, situated high on a hill at 3 km from the property, where you will find a lovely weekly market, a super market, several bakeries, English newspapers in the local bookshop, a few bars and restaurants. Ste Foy-la-Grande is 22 kms to the north and Bordeaux 90 kms to the west.
La Blanchère is situated in the middle of the wine region of Côte de Duras, where numerous wine chateaux welcome you for a free taste. History relives in charming bastide towns and villages such as Eymet, Monségur, Villereal and Monpazier, dating back to the middle ages and the so-called 'Guerre de cent ans' or 'The 100-year Battle' between the English and the French.
Nearest airports: The property is at only 40 minutes driving distance from Bergerac international airport with regular low cost flights from Stansted (Ryanair), Southampton or Bristol (Flybe). Bordeaux airport is at approx. 70 minutes drive.
