The town is the home of Rugby 7's and the famous Melrose abbey founded in 1136. Nestling at the foot of the beautiful Eildon hills, the area is ideal for exploring the ancient Roman settlement of Trimontium, and an even more ancient Bronze age site.

Festivals- Common ridings and ancient festivals dating from the middle ages take place in all the surrounding towns from May till September.
