Three exquisite rooms to let in this restored B&B guesthouse, once rural school, with gardens and pool, set amongst the manderine and avocado groves of the valley of Vélez-Málaga in the heart of the Axarquía region of Andalusia.
We have two double rooms with ensuite bathrooms and kitchens and one twin room with ensuite bathroom, and a mini fridge and microwave. All rooms have TV and a cosy woodburner for the Winter. Each has its own terrace area and there is a mature garden with BBQ, a pool, table tennis and a trampoline for the children.
Built in the 1940’s, amongst the lemon, mandarine and avocado groves of this lush, tropical valley, the school was active until just a few years ago, doubling as a local place of worship on Sundays. Today the building, with its beamed school hall and its picturesque bell tower, has been fully restored and extended to provide comfortable accommodation for holiday makers looking to escape from the tourists and explore the area freely, on foot, by bike or by car, or playing golf at one of the nearby golf courses.
The garden is perfect for relaxing in the sun or taking a cooling dip in the pool overhung by mandarine trees and other tropical fruits, accompanied only by the cheerful cheeping of the many birds. Guests are free to make use of the BBQ, play table tennis, and the kids can jump away all their energy on the trampoline! Or simply sit, relax, sunbathe, read a book from our library, and, especially nice, contemplate the beauty of the sky as the sun sets and night time descends on the valley.
At night the Escuela and its gardens become a magical world, with the twinkling lights of the garden and those of the ancient Moorish town of Vélez-Málaga visible beyond.
Escuela ‘La Crujía’ offers three comfortable and spacious double or twin rooms, all with their own entrances and outdoor terrace or seating area. Each room is furnished in simple, Andalusian rustic style.
The Escuela is set in the countryside, but is only 5 minutes from the historic town of Vélez-Málaga and 10 minutes from the coast (Torre del Mar). Nerja is 20 minutes' drive and Malaga 30 mins. Inland, explore beautiful Lake Viñuela (10 mins) and the whitewashed mountain villages of the Axarquía region.

Escuela ‘La Crujía’ is located in the heart of the lush, tropical valley of Vélez-Málaga, in the unspoilt and spectacularly beautiful Axarquía region just half an hour to the East of Malaga city. The valley enjoys its own micro climate, allowing tropical fruits such as avocado, kiwi, mango and citrus fruits to grow in abundance and which can be found all around the surrounding countryside.
A short drive up the track from the school is the Karma Guen Buddhist Centre, with its extraordinary Buddhist statue (‘Stupa’), the largest of its kind in Europe. It is a truly awe-inspiring spot, where the silence and the scenery speak louder than words.
Further on, discover Lake Viñuela, a large reservoir surrounded by lush banks carpeted with flowers in the springtime and offering good walks and picnic areas. The olive-covered hills, with their white ‘splashes’ of the many little Andalusian villages dotted all around, and the spectacular Sierra de Tejeda and Sierra de Almijara mountain ranges beyond, entice the visitor to explore.
Just ten minutes’ drive from the sea, the Escuela is ideally placed for switching between trips into the countryside and to the coast.
The nearest seaside town, Torre del Mar, is a typically Spanish seaside resort, with a large beach, long esplanade and numerous shops, beach bars, pubs, cafes and restauraunts.
Nearby is La Caleta marina and 15 minutes further East is Nerja, its famous caves, and, all along the coast, the undiscovered secrets of secluded bays and picturesque villages.
If you enjoy a round of golf, Baviera and Añoreta golf courses are just a short drive away, with more golf courses being built currently further inland.
For the kids, if you can drag them away from the beach, discover the delights of the aquapark (Aquavelis), between Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar, just five minutes from the Escuela and another five from the seafront.
