Bambecq Farmhouse - Pretty Flemish-style Farmhouse in Chateau grounds
Farmhouse with 3 Bedrooms, Sleeps 6, Garden
Bambecq Farmhouse is a Flemish-style property situated in the extensive grounds of the spectacular Château de Bambecq, a beautiful small Château in Northern France. Guests have the use of the Château grounds, which consist of fifteen acres of parkland, woodlands and a small lake. The Château is on the outskirts of Racquinghem, a large village some 10 kilometres south east of the city of Saint-Omer and under an hours drive from Boulogne, Calais or Dunkirk.
The grounds are a wildlife sanctuary for wild deer, waterfowl, hares, rabbits and a great variety of birds, and it is for this reason that we do not allow pets.
View over the lake
Built sometime in the early 1800s, the Farmhouse offers an attractive combination of the traditional and the modern. Situated on the south-west corner of the Farm Courtyard and enjoying views over the lawns and lake, the Farmhouse consists of a large, triple-aspect living/dining room, compact modern kitchen, bathroom, separate WC, principal bedroom (double), second bedroom (twin) with a third bedroom, with a bunk bed, leading off it. It is tastefully decorated and traditionally furnished in French style with touches ‘à l’Anglais’.
The Farmhouse forms the south-west corner of a cobbled farmyard, around which are situated stables, coachouse, workshops, barns, henhouse and outbuildings, which occupy three of the four sides. The forth has a low wall and looks out onto the grounds of the Château.
Like many buildings in the area, the Farmhouse is essentially Flemish in design and is a striking building in its own right. The south facing wall is covered by very old, scented climbing roses which reach the full height of the building. They face what was the original kitchen garden (which we hope at some point to restore) and a professionally constructed manege for schooling horses.
For equestrian guests, the stables and the floodlit manège are available with the Farmhouse as part of a package arrangement for horse training intensives. Please call and ask us about this facility.
Farmhouse visitors can elect to self-cater and be completely self-sufficient or, as an interesting alternative (subject to availability and at additional cost), can join Château guests for dinner as Table d'Hôte guests. Dinner 38 euros per head (three courses, including half a bottle of wine per head per adult and coffee) If you have a larger party, additional rooms are usually available in the Château.

Local activities in and around St Omer, North East
One of the great benefits of the local area is the wide range of activities available - golfing in Saint-Omer, horse-riding, boat tours around the Audomarois, several museums, the Saint-Omer brewery, the tour of the Crystallerie d'Arques and a number of wartime and other historical sites. The seaside towns of Wimereux and Boulogne-sur-Mer, among others, are not much more than an hour's easy drive away. These, together with the facilities offered by the Château, mean there is something to suit every taste. In-house services/activities include:-
Aromatherapy Massage - Linda Sherman is a qualified Tisserand-trained aromatherapist and has a dedicated treatment room in the Château. Please ask for full details.
The Brocante Club - finding antiques and French items at the many street markets and sale rooms
Equestrian Facilities - stables and manege for the equestrian tourist
Art and Photographic - the area is extremely photogenic, and an artists paradise. Courses are run at the Château from time to time
Choral Club - the Château has choral workshops and other musical activities on a regular basis.
At this time (Spring 2008) some of these activities are still in development. However, please ask about those that interest you - you may just be the catalyst we need to get another service up and running!
