Local activities in and around Bakewell, Heart of England
The village boasts many interesting sites and traditions one being the annual Well Dressing which takes place at several sites throughout the village, notably in Fountain Square, and is an event unique to Derbyshire villages. In addition to this is Thimble Hall which is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the smallest detached house in the world and is located immediately next door to Thimble Cottage. It is in the process of being completely restored back to its former, albeit small, glory. It is set to become a living museum and craft and shop dispensing award winning locally produced ice cream
The Peak District was Britain's first national park, established in April 1951. Around 38,000 people live in the Park in 125 parishes. Visitors from all over the world come to the Park to find peace and tranquillity and to reconnect with the natural world. You can also find adventure, experiencing some of England’s finest climbing, caving, walking and cycling. The National Park covers 1,438 km2 (555 sq. miles) with over 2,500 km of public rights of way.

It is steeped in history, full of beautiful works of art and over the years the parks and gardens have been enhanced by such famous landscape gardeners as Capability Brown and Joseph Paxton. The Saxon town of Bakewell is regarded as the capital of the Peak District and home of the famous Bakewell Pudding and Bakewell Show which is one of the best agricultural events of its type in the country.
