This one time Portuguese family home and huge barn have been converted into a spacious resting place whilst maintaining the old personality. There is plenty of room for a large group to find individual quiet spots in the courtyard, by the pool or in the orchard and then get together in the evening to eat at home or enjoy sumptuous cooking at any of the good value restaurants a few minutes drive away.
There is a small cafe and mini market withing two minutes walking where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, the most delicious locally laid eggs, cheese, ham and much more besides. There is also a baker who will deliver bread to your door every day except Sunday to make breakfasts extra special.

There are three double bedrooms and one single, all with plenty of room for clothes. The kitchen is fitted with everything you could want for self catering - dishwasher, full size traditional cooker and microwave, washing machine, plenty of space and plenty of utensils.
The lounge has a high exposed beam ceiling which adds to the cool feel of the house in the summer. And in the winter there is, not only central heating, but also two fire places (one with wood burning stove) so that you can enjoy the delights of this wonderful area through all the seasons.
The gardens have mature olives, figs, walnut and fruit trees - all of which you are more than welcome to sample. The pool is right outside the lounge and is a real hit with the children (and adults). But you can also lounge at the side, look out over the valley towards the hills where the dinosaur footprints give testimony to the ancient travels of those huge creatures.

Local activities in and around Tomar, Costa de Prata
The castle in Tomar or more properly the Convent of Christ is steeped in history and is fascinating to scholars and children alike with its winding stairs, carved stone windows, circular charola, gardens battlements and a great setting for wild imaginings.
The knights Templars helped the Portugese kins reconquer land form the Muslems during the 12th century and the air of timelessness stems from the range ofarchitectural styles which are an undying testimony to mans creativity.
It overlooks the cobblestone streets of the town which are full of little shops that take you back to a bygone time. Restaurants and cafes abound and it's hard to resist the good quality of the food and cakes.
Further afield there are lakes where you can swim, canoe, water ski or just enjoy the wild life and smell of pine and eucalyptus. There is also a lovely fort that is in the middle of the river and so you can take a short trip around the island before exploring the turrets. Dinosaur footprints can be seen in the rocky mountains where you also find magnificent caves. In the valley there is magnificent wine sampled which might be accompanied by a hay ride around the estate of one of the participants of the wine route.
Trips to the coast reveal a delightfully unspoilt coastline with the opportunity to enjoy the atlantic power or little inlets where the water is gentle and welcoming.
Lisbon is not that far away and all the delights of a capital city which has its own historical story to tell, its port and castles, museums and night life.
Two weeks is not enough to enjoy it all - try sneeking away for a month!
The house is easily accessible by car from either Lisbon (about 90 minutes) or Porto (about 2 hours) airport. Driving directions will be provided on booking.
