Local activities in and around Swanage, South
A short walk takes you down to the town with its sandy beach, Victorian pier, restaurants, shops and pubs. You can get all food supplies in the local stores/supermarkets, whilst in the summer you can get all adventurous by buying fish down at the Stone Quay or by catching it yourself on a local boat trip.
Swanage itself has over a mile of sandy beach and the vast unspoilt National Trust beach of Studland Bay is only a few miles away. At both places you can hire boats and have a go at numerous water sports.
If the weather isn't good enough for a beach day out then there are local indoor swimming pools and Putlake Adventure Farm on the outskirts of Swanage is always popular with the children.
From the pier it's easy to catch boats to Bournemouth, the National Trust Nature Sanctuary on Brown Sea Island and even to the Isle of Wight.
Moments from the cottage is an entrance into Durlston Country Park, the very opening of the Dorset's famous Jurassic Coast. From here you can head to the lighthouse and beyond, where you will find spectacular views of cliffs, quarries and sea.
At Swanage railway station the steam train leaves to beautiful Corfe and its ruined castle. From here, if you are feeling energetic, you can walk back along the Purbeck Hills, taking in magnificent views of Poole Harbour, Studland's golf course and the Isle of Wight in the far distance.
