A lovely terraced gite (1 of 5 here), for adult couples only, in the garden and beside the swimming pool of a 100-year old residence, once belonging to a wealthy wine producer and trader, in the lively town of Olonzac, the capital of the Minervois.
Ideal for a wedding anniversary celebration, a romantic holiday for two, a well-needed winter break or for house-hunting in the egion, the terraced gites were converted from the old staff quarters and stables of the 'masion de maitre'.
They comprise a comfortable living room and galley-style kitchenette on the ground floor, and a double bedroom and shower room upstairs on the first floor. They each have a gravelled terrace with table and chairs for al fresco dining - see also Gite Topaze 2 which has an additional PRIVATE terrace to the side.
The municipal park next door was originally part of the garden, but now provides a pleasant place to go for a stroll.
Gite Topaze is situated in the town of Olonzac which has a good selection of shops, a supermarket, a wine 'cave', cafe-bars, restaurants, banks and pharmacies. AND a great market on a Tuesday morning - selling everything from really fresh seasonal local produce to beds! These are all just a few steps away. Despite being in the town, however, the garden location of the gites is calm and enchanting.
The shared swimming pool here is sizeable 5m x 13m and around it you will find more chairs and sun-loungers. NEW for 2009 is the addition of a jaccuzzi/spa pool in the garden adjacent to the swimming pool.
Further chairs and tables are available to use in the spacious garden should you wish.
The owners try to do everything here to make your stay comfortable, and they are very flexible about your arrival and departure days so you can take advantage of the low-cost airlines from the UK and Ireland. The minimum stay here is just 3 nights.

1 Double Bedroom. Please note these gites are for adult couples only. The bedrooms have a double bed.
Bathrooms:
1 Shower. The WC is in the shower room.
Kitchen:
Hob, Microwave, Fridge, Washing Machine. There is also a small oven. The washing machine is the owners' and is located in a separate area, but you are able to use it with permission, and an ironing board and iron.
General:
Central Heating, House Linen, Towels Provided. Occasional internet access is available in the main house with the owners' permission. An internet cafe is just down the road next door to the post office.
Dining:
Seating for 2. You can dine either indoors on the dining table - or when the weather's warm outside on the terrace.
Entertainment:
Satellite TV. Olonzac is a lively town and the bars and restaurants are open most evenings.
Outside:
Communal Pool, Terrace, Garden, BBQ, Garden Furniture. Parking is in the street alongside the main house and garden. New for 2009, a jaccuzzi/spa-pool adjacent to the swimming pool - great for relaxing after a day's sight-seeing.
Suitability:
Not Suitable For Children, Not Suitable For Wheelchairs, Pets Allowed.
Dogs are permitted to stay here with prior permission but in Gite Topaze 2 only, but please note that the owner has two friendly dogs.
Local activities in and around Olonzac, Languedoc-Roussillon
Olonzac is a lively town and well-serviced with shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants and has a weekly market on a Tuesday mornng. You can play tennis in Olonzac if you wish, and the Canal du Midi is just a short bike ride or drive away.
The town has a festival in August with markets, festivities and live music. Please enquire for the dates.
Olonzac is a great place from which to explore the Minervois and wine-lovers will find numerous opportunities for wine-tasting and buying wine direct from the local producers. Whilst here you can also visit the ancient city of Minerve, the medieval city of Carcassonne, Narbonne, Beziers (the rugby capital of France), the abbeys of Fontfroide and Lagrasse, and the beach resorts of Narbonne-Plage and Gruissan-Plage.
The nearest motorway exit is No: 25 Lezignan Corbieres on the A61, or No:36 Beziers West on the A9.. Full directions will be sent upon reservation

Rental Notes: Everything is included in the rental cost except Taxe de Sejour payable from 1st April to 30th September at the guide rate of €1.00 per person per day, payable direct to the owners.
The owner asks for a damage deposit of €50 on arrival. This is refunded to you at the end of your stay, less the cost of any breakages.
The change-over day is flexible - please enquire. Long weekends and mini-breaks are often available - please enquire. The minimum stay is 3 nights.
