This countryside retreat in the Fitou region is situated adjacent to the Maison de Maitre on an organic wine-producing 'domaine' on the edge of the village of Cacastel-des-Corbieres about 30kms south of Narbonne. The domaine owners will share with you their love of the wine produced from almost 30 acres of vines, all with Appellation d'Origine Controllee - AOC Fitou, Corbieres, Rivesaltes and Muscat de Rivesaltes.
Stone walls, terracotta tiles, rush-matting and period furniture blended with modern give this gite a rustic feel. You can savour life as it has always been in this unspoiled beautiful region of France.
Whilst in a rural setting, you are in the midst of Cathar castle country and yet only 25 minutes drive away from the Mediterranean beaches. It is only a short walk to the village of Cascastel.

The living room has a rustic feel with stone walls and terracotta tiles and has a TV and radio/cassette.
The gite has two bedrooms each with its own bath or shower room. Outside there's a small enclosed courtyard garden with table and chairs and a barbecue. The outside Jacuzzi ( available in July and August) is a great place to relax after a day's sightseeing.

Local activities in and around Durban Corbieres, Languedoc-Roussillon
Cascastel is a small village associated with the production of wine. It has a chateau, an 11th century church, a grocer, a tabac, a post office and a restaurant. Further shops and facilities are in Villeneuve-les-Corbieres (2km) or Durban (6kms).
As well as walking or mountain-biking in the Corbieres hills, or playing boules in the village, you can play tennis at Villeneuve (2kms). Within 1.5 hours drive are the ski-slopes of Font Romeu, Pyrenees 2000 and Les Angles.
When sight-seeing, discover the Cathar castles of Aguilar, Queribus, Peyrepertuse and Villerouge-Termenes, as well as visit the medieval city of Carcassonne and the abbeys of Fontfroide and Lagrasse. Children and adults will have a great day out at the African Nature Reserve at Sigean.
And don't forget the fine sandy beaches of the Languedoc coast, and further south, the more dramatic coastline of the Cote Vermeille and Collioure.
There's a Saturday market at Villesque (10kms) and in Narbonne every Thursday and Sunday.
Cascastel is about 10 minutes drive from the town of Durban and about 30kms south of Narbonne. The nearest motorway exits are on the A9, No: 39 Sigean, and on the A61, No: 25 Lezignan Corbieres.
