This large, beautifully appointed detached villa sits on a small hill in the heart of Tavira with magnificent views of the Roman Bridge and out to sea along the river. Comprehensively equipped, it has 4 beds, 3 baths, partial aircon, pool ~11mx5 (~36ftx16), etc. A large lounge and an open-plan dining/kitchen are amply furnished for up to 8 guests. Dining al fresco for up to 8 guests. Patio separated from pool by a child-security fence. High surrounding walls give privacy at pool.

While the villa can accommodate eight adults comfortably, discounted rates are offered for smaller parties out of season – prices shown are valid for July, August but discounts Sept to June for parties of 4, 5, 6 or 7 guests.
A footpath at the back of the house leads down to the town centre in 6 to 10 mins (depending on age and agility!). A local English couple manage the villa and are on hand should any emergencies arise.

The detached 4-bed, 3-bath villa in Urbanizacao Colina da Asseca in Tavira Town is on a plot of ~1000sqm. Covered area is ~250sqm (2700sqft) excluding garage. Surrounded by marble-tiled terraces, it has uninterrupted views along the river, over the Roman Bridge and out to sea. It has its own 11mx5 (36ftx16) pool with ample furniture. A child security fence separates the pool from the patio. Private parking is available for several vehicles.
A footpath at the back of the villa allows you to reach the old Roman bridge, generally regarded as the centre point of Tavira, in ~7 minutes. A car is not necessary -- taxis are readily available and relatively inexpensive.

The ~7mx7 (~22ftx22) lounge, with 2x3-seater and 2x2-seater couches, seats eight comfortably; a bar is also present. Four sliding doors open onto the wraparound terrace. The spacious kitchen/dining room has three sliding doors opening onto the wrap-around terrace (with barbecue) and offers views to the town, the river and the sea. Both lounge and dining room are air-conditioned. There is a shaded terrace off the kitchen.
There are two double and two twin bedrooms. The master bedroom is air-conditioned and en suite, the other bedrooms have fans. All bedrooms have a sliding door opening onto a small balcony. A large roof terrace with stunning views is accessed from the bedroom level.
All windows are double-glazed and fitted with blackout shutters against the summer heat. WiFi Internet, Satellite TV, DVD, phone (incoming calls only) are provided. Linen and towels are provided. Linen is changed and villa fully cleaned each 6 to 8 days; towels changed and bathrooms cleaned each 3 to 4 days. The property is managed by an English couple who live locally. They greet guests and are on call in the event of any emergency.

Smoking is limited to the terraces or balconies but, with eight sliding doors on the ground-floor and one in each bedroom, these are readily accessible. Small, well trained pets may be considered.
Local activities in and around Tavira, Eastern Algarve
The nearby 11km of beaches on Ilha da Tavira are some of the best in the Algarve. Tavira town is one of the most attractive and unspoiled towns in the Algarve and has a wide variety of activities throughout the year. The surrounding Ria Formosa Nature Park offers peaceful walks, bird watching, horse riding, etc. Several golf courses lie within 5 to 15 mins drive (including Quinta da Cima, one of the best in the Algarve). The attractions of Seville are 90 mins away by car, a little longer by the twice daily express bus. The Guadiana Valley offers fantastic sightseeing, etc. An excellent commuter train service connects all the coastal towns of the Algarve with a frequency of ~1 train per hour during the day and connects Tavira with the twice daily Faro-Lisbon express. Eastern Algarve
For golfers, there are three courses within 10 minutes drive (Benamor, Quinta ca Cima, Quinta da Ria) while 20 minutes will bring Quinta Vale, Monte Rei, Castro Marim and Maragota within range. Almost all of the well known courses of the Algarve are within one hour's drive -- also the Spanish courses of Isla da Canela, Islantilla, etc.
The nearby Guadiana Valley(the border with Spain) has several old walled towns (a reminder of the past rivalry with Spain) and many Phoenician remains.
The town of Tavira itself is rich in Roman, Moorish, Crusader, and medieval Christian remains. It boasts about 30 churches (some built on the remains of Moorish mosques and, thanks to a vibrant fishing industry, even more excellent restaurants.
Tavira is surrounded by the Ria Formosa Nature Park, risch in flora, fauna, lepidoptera, etc. There you can go bird-watching, horse riding, wandering, etc.
