This villa is designed with a Gated Swimming Pool to help restrict access for young children. Parents can sit on the shaded patio and easily keep an eye on the kids.
The villa sleeps 8 in 4 double/twin bedrooms. Located in our St Basil Olive Grove, only 3 minutes drive from the beach at Almyrida, on the Apokoronas Peninsular in North West Crete (30 minute drive from Chania Airport). Also nearby, only a 10 minute walk away, is the 1000-year old Greek village of Gavalochori with tavernas & shops.
The villa is not built on a cramped housing development! It shares the Olive Grove with only 4 other villas but is not overlooked by them so your privacy is protected. The olive grove is huge (4.5 acres, 17,000 sq metres) and is fully fenced and gated. The road to Almyrida has only light traffic during the day and occasional vehicles at night, yet you are never far from civilisation and the bustling cafe culture and nightlife of nearby villages. Suitable for wheelchair users.

This larger-than-average detached villa has a floor and terrace area of 160 sq metres. It features 4 double/twin bedrooms, sleeping up to 8 adults in comfort. (Unlike some other villas claiming to sleep 8, there is no need for anyone to sleep in the lounge on a fold-out or camp bed.)
The house is situated in a 4.5 acre olive grove (the size of 4 football fields). The entire perimeter is fenced so children cannot wander into the road if you close the main gates behind you. (Road is a quiet country lane - not much traffic.) You are free to wander the huge gardens and olive groves. This is a haven for wild flowers, songbirds, crickets and famous gecko lizards, found everywhere in Crete.
Villa Helios is ideal if you value your privacy while wishing to remain conveniently close to village life and amenities. Just a few minutes away by car is Almyrida Bay for safe, sandy beaches, watersports, shops, many restaurants and bars. The traditional village of Gavalochori is just 10 minutes walk, where you will find restaurants and shops.
Pool is toddler friendly. A special feature of Villa Helios is a large tiled terrace leading to a private swimming pool. The owners have taken special care to make the pool as safe as possible for young children. It is ‘gated’ to control pool access. This gives parents more opportunity to relax, as it is difficult for young children to reach the water unsupervised.
All 4 bedrooms have private balconies with spectacular, uninterrupted views of the White Mountains which remain snow-capped until early summer.

Local activities in and around Almirida, Crete

Spectacular countryside with breathtaking views of White Mountains from villa & all bedroom terraces. Sea Fishing - tackle shop in nearby Kalives.
The White Mountains dominate the area and provide a dramatic backdrop to the sandy beaches at Almirida, Kalives and Georgeoupolis. The Apokoronas area is also well known for its traditional inland villages such as Vamos, Kefalas, Plaka and Kokkino Chorio - location for the film 'Zorba The Greek'.
The large bay that makes up the seaside resorts of Almirida and Kalives has many separate, safe, sandy beaches, usually with full facilities. Almirida, is a thriving seaside resort with a windsurfing school and tavernas and bars lining the sea front. There are a couple of mini-markets, a bakery, patisserie, a wine shop and newsagents. Mountain bikes can be hired and there is also a small taxi rank. There is a bus service to Kalives and Chania.
Kalives is a working village as well as being a tourist destination. So in addition to the beaches, tavernas, bars and tourist shops there are local shops plus a good-sized supermarket. Banking, post office and petrol station are available.
Chania - a cosmopolitan city voted the most beautiful on Crete. With the White Mountains as a backdrop, its Venetian harbour, museums, fascinating indoor market and an old quarter of narrow streets packed with interesting shops, Chania offers something for most visitors.
It is a vibrant place steeped in Byzantine, Venetian and Turkish history. The harbour area is a great place to sit and watch the world go by at one of the sea-front tavernas.
Charter Flight time 4 hours from UK airports to Chania (1/2 hour drive) or Heraklion (2 hour drive). We can also advise on reliable local car hire at reasonable cost with good English-speaking staff
