Brise de Mer is an elegantly furnished two bedroom apartment with a private terrace and a fabulous sea view. It is located in Port la Galère - a wonderfully sophisticated "domaine" set between the Corniche d’Or and the sea itself, just west of Cannes.
Port la Galère consists of a number of individually unique buildings in nearly 60 acres of lush tropical gardens with pools and everything you need for a great holiday. Golf and all sorts of adventures and pleasures are available nearby.
THE SETTING : We had never imagined buying an apartment (rather than a villa) down here until we found Port la Galère - a wonderfully sophisticated "domaine" set between the Corniche d’Or and the sea itself and consisting of a number of differently shaped buildings set in nearly 60 acres of lush tropical gardens. The original design in 1970 was by Jacques Couëlle, a pupil of Gaudi - so there’s hardly a straight line in sight! Pierre Cardin has property on the domaine.
Why were we inspired by it? Apart from the exciting visual aspect of the architecture and the surroundings, it is very secure (fenced and guarded) so children can wander around freely and meet others. There are tennis courts, a fitness centre, 3 private (rocky) beaches, 2 huge swimming pools (one heated in winter), a marina, elegant bars and two excellent restaurants, all in the atmosphere and style of a private club. In high season there are fantastic special evenings by the pool once a week.
THE APARTMENT: BRISE de MER is an elegantly furnished apartment with a private terrace (a few steps up from ground level) and a fabulous sea view. The unusually shaped living room has a comfortable seating area, a fireplace (not much used!), a satellite TV with DVD player, a stereo and a library of books and DVDs. There is also a dining table and chairs. French doors lead from the living room to the large terrace with outdoor dining furniture.
The separate kitchen is fully equipped with hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher and all the utensils you’d need for elaborate cooking
On the same level is a double (fourposter) bedroom and a shower room/WC designed in the spirit of Gaudi. The bedroom also has access to the terrace and sea views.
A spiral staircase leads down to a twin bedroom with a seating area and its own bathroom/WC. Also on this lower level the apartment has a small laundry room.

Local activities in and around Port La Galere, Cote d'Azur/Provence
outside Port la Galère (3km) is the charming seaside village of Théoule sur Mer with shops, bars and restaurants. Cannes is 10 minutes away and Nice airport 35 minutes. The Iles de Lerin can be reached by ferry from Théoule or, of course, you could hire your own boat from the Port la Galère marina for the trip!
The Côte d’Azur isn’t only beaches and sparkling sea. In the mountains immediately behind the coast are beautiful medieval villages with their colourful weekly markets and superb restaurants; Tourettes sur Loup, St Paul de Vence, Mougins and the extraordinary village perché of Gourdon are between 20 minutes’ and 1 hour’s drive. The Old Town sector of Nice is well worth exploring for its shopping and charming colours and architecture.
For a spectacular day trip visit the breathtaking Gorge du Verdon - France’s Grand Canyon and, indeed, the second largest in the world after the USA version.
On the coast between Cannes and Nice is Marineland (www.marineland.fr) with tropical fish, sharks, dolphin shows and incredible performances by a group of killer whales.
There are 7 golf courses within easy or very easy (10 minutes) reach, mountain walks (also mountain bike routes) into the Esterel from Théoule and scuba diving and snorkelling from the Port la Galère marina. If you want to be really adventurous, try parapenting, hang gliding, whitewater rafting or canyoning.
Théoule sur Mer is 35 minutes’ drive from Nice airport By car the driving time from Calais is about 12 hours with Autoroutes available all the way By TGV Cannes is in 5 hours from Paris.
