Quintamar is set within the Ria Formosa, a nature reserve situated within the countryside and along the coast of Eastern Algarve. A quiet and unspoilt area with a wide variety of birds and fauna, it is an idyllic and very peaceful location with easy access to beaches, riverlife, historic towns and fishing villages. Tavira is 2km away and can be reached by country lanes and Santa Luzia village and Barril beach is a 10 - 15 minute stroll away. A car is not essential.
Quintamar is a perfect environment for families, couples and larger combinations sleeping between 2 - 23 people. Comprising of houses set alongside each other and set within the footprint of a traditional farm building within almond and olive orchards. A 400 m2 biological lake with an inner swimming pool area surrounded by fauna creates a beautful and refreshing retreat. Private terraces, garden areas, sandpit, playground and lawns make for great outdoor living. Each house has SKY free-to-air TV, DVD players and heating.

There are two 2-bedroom houses, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor, sleeping up to 5 persons in each. Large kitchen and living room areas and one bathroom in each. There are two 3-bedroom houses, both occupying the ground floor and first floor. All three ground floor houses can interconnect if required via an interior set of doors, for the purpose of extended families or groups. The first floor 2 bedroom house is accessed via two exterior staircases on either side of the building, both with terraces and tables and chairs. There are washing machines, iron and boards in the laundry room, for all to use.
The houses are spacious, cool and light, with marble floors throughout. All furnishing is new and comfortable. Ceiling fans in living rooms. All windows and doors have sliding insect nets, though the lake supplies natural and effective insect repellents.
Each house has private patios and terraces offering both sunny and shady areas, with dining tables and chairs and sunbeds. Child safe gates lead from each patio to the lake side. The lawn slopes down to the lakeside, wooden decking and sunbeds. A large lawn for games and a play ground to be made in 2008.
Wood burning stoves are installed which circulate hot air, very effective and no smells or smoke can escape. Fans, heaters, cots and highchairs are also supplied on request. Apart from the natural wildlife, we have doves that roam free and are very friendly, chickens which can supply you with fresh eggs and racing pigeons kept out in the fields and a friendly family dog.

Local activities in and around Tavira, Eastern Algarve
The beach Islands of the Ria Formosa are renowned for being really beautiful, mostly unspoilt and uncrowded. They extend to 12 km of white sandy beaches reached by foot, boat or by little train. Barril beach is the closest and is accessed either by foot or mini train, all year long. Santa Luzia beach has a seasonal boat service. Both can be reached within about 15 minutes walk and then a 5 minute ride.
Tavira Island has a good selection of restaurants and bars plus a camping ground and is more active in the high season, there is a constant boat service.
Golf: There are four golf courses in the area. About 5km away is the newly built Quinta Da Ria and Quinta da Cima golf course which has beautiful courses on the coast.
Travel: Car hire is optional, as bicycles can easily be rented and are suitable for the terrain and distances. Walking is reasonable, though summers can be quite hot for walking! Taxi services are good and reasonable.
Distances: Tavira is a 5 minute car drive away and about 30 minutes by foot through quiet country lanes. Santa Luzia fishing village is nearer, about 10 minutes by foot. Spain is about 25km away and Seville can be reached easily by car in 1.5 hours.
There are plenty of restaurants in Santa Luzia, renowned for fresh fish and seafood. Restaurants, cafes and small shops dot the river side. Tavira has a big supermarket and many shops and amenities plus numerous restaurants, bars and cafes.
There are many beautiful sites in and around Tavira, including waterfalls and timeless hilltop hamlets and landscapes. Plenty to discover and come across, all characteristically portuguese
Summer months offer plenty of entertainment and culture, including concerts, exhibitions, markets, live performance shows, theatre and outdoor international cinema festivals. A lively outdoor ambient during summer nights, suitable for all ages.
Zoomarine, Slide and Splash and other aquatic outings are popular and accessible from Tavira area.
