Local activities in and around Clonakilty, South West
There is a secluded shingle beach 7 minutes walk from Crab Cottage (takes slightly longer on return trip due to gradient!). Many other delightful sandy beaches are within a short drive, including safe 'blue flag' beaches, ideal for children. The coastline of West Cork is unspoilt and picturesque.
Many nearby towns and villages such as Clonakilty, Skibereen, Castletownsend, Glandore and Union Hall are interesting to explore. Live, traditional Irish music is often played in local pubs, particularly in Clonakilty.
It is possible to enjoy a range of outdoor activities locally including walking, fishing, bird watching, sailing, canoeing, diving, sea kayaking, surfing, whale watching, golf and pony trekking.
For food lovers West Cork has some of the best natural products in Europe, plus a wide range of restaurants, gourmet shops and cafes in which to sample them.
In wet weather there are several interesting possibilities for day trips e.g. Bantry House, Skibbereen town and its Heritage Centre and Cork City (including the English Market, City Gaol Museum and the Crawford Gallery). For brighter days we have enjoyed trips to Blarney Castle, Loch Ine, Charles Fort in Kinsale, West Cork Model Railway, Drombeg stone circle and ferry trips to the nearby islands of Sherkin, Heir Island and Cape Clear.
We have produced our own comprehensive guide to the locality which is available upon request.

"Crab Cottage is magnificent. It lacks nothing; as confirmed foodies it was a real treat to cook in that kitchen. We have stayed on dozens of rentals in Scotland, France and Italy over the years and Crab Cottage is the best by far. " - Iain McIntosh
"The cottage was fantastic. It was simply the best cottage we have stayed in. The location was beautiful and it all made it a brilliant holiday." - Neil Marrion
