Sea Shell Cottage - Cottage in coastal fishing village
Cottage with 3 Bedrooms, Sleeps 6, Garden
Johnshaven is situated just off the main A92 coastal road between Montrose and Stonehaven. The village still retains many of its traditional fishing characteristics. Whilst the fishing industry is no longer the main stay of the village economy, lobsters are still landed here. The harbour which has increasingly more boats that are for leisure and pleasure has regular moorings for 20 boats (contact the Harbour Master to arrange a mooring).
The Annual Fish Festival in Johnshaven is held in the harbour area of the village in August and attracts thousands of visitors from around the country and from across the world.
Johnshaven’s Annual New Year Firework Spectacular is held on the last Sunday of the festive holiday season. Residents and visitors flock to the harbour side to watch an amazingly spectacular half hour fireworks display with fire dancers, music food and mulled wine etc to celebrate the end of the festive holiday.
Sea Shell Cottage has oil fired central heating. It has 3 comfortable bedrooms (2 double and one with twin beds), a bathroom with over bath shower, a traditional style living room and a kitchen with dinning space for 6. The cottage is comfortable and provides an ideal base for relaxing and also for exploring the north east coast, Aberdeenshire and nearby Royal Deeside.
Wind your way north from Dundee along the A92 and you will find the picturesque fishing village of Johnshaven nestled on the east coast of Scotland, between Aberdeen (the Granite City) and Dundee (City of Discovery).
Artists, poets and musicians have over the years drawn inspiration from the dramatic seascapes and idyllic seclusion offered by the north east coastal villages of Scotland as well as the hinterland which encompasses the Howe of the Mearns, (Lewis Grassic Gibbon country). The famed British painter Joan Eardley (1921-1963) was enchanted by this coast amongst her favourite subjects in her later years was the village of Catterline and the ever present seascapes which inspired her, especially in stormy weather conditions. The freely painted, often bleak and desolate works that resulted are among the most powerful and individual landscapes in 20th-century British art.
