Cottage with 4 Bedrooms, Sleeps 8, Garden, Swimming Pool
This cottage is a "Maison d' Amis" in the grounds of our house - separated by a fence, hedge and gates. It is a traditional, single storey Perigordian cottage which has been completely renovated.
It has 4 bedrooms and the layout makes it very suitable for two families travelling together. There is a large, open-plan, kitchen/dining room in the middle of the house with a small sitting room. To the left of this are two bedrooms (one double, one with full sized 3’ wide bunks), a bathroom and a separate WC; to the right another double and a single / twin bedroom, a shower room with WC and a utility room with a washing machine. The kitchen has gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. There is satellite TV / video & DVD and a telephone for incoming and local calls. It has full gas central heating.
There is a terrace in front of the house shaded by two large lime trees and another on the side overlooking the swimming pool. On the far side of the pool is a shaded terrace with BBQ and table tennis table. There is a set of swings with a small slide. The 'garden' of the cottage (about 1 acre) is mainly grass with fruit trees etc. There are two garages.
The pool is 6m x 12m & 1.5m (no "deep" end) with a saline treatment system. It overflows into a smaller, shallower pool in the lower part of the garden. It is unheated but has an electrically controlled shutter which really helps to keep the heat in overnight. It is fenced in accordance with the new French standards.
The house is situated on the edge the small village of Velines close to the riverside "bastide" town of Ste. Foy la Grande. It is roughly one hour east of Bordeaux and 30 mins west of Bergerac. Velines has a baker, general store, post office, pharmacy, hairdresser and a somewhat scruffy bar. There is a small market on Wednesday mornings and a pizza van in the square on Friday evenings.

Weekly cleaning is available upon request at 10 euros per hour.
Private Pool, Terrace, Garden, Parking, Garden Furniture. If people renting the cottage agree I like to swim early in the morning and again - at a pre-arranged time - for about 30 minutes in the late afternoon / early evening. If not, not!

Local activities in and around Bergerac, Aquitaine/Dordogne
We are about 5km north of the Dordogne River (canoe hire etc.) and 15km south of a large "leisure" lake with pedalos, tennis, horse riding, restaurants etc. Just over two hours drive to the Atlantic coast for surfing etc. The beautiful Chateau des Vigiers is 20 km away & has both an 18 and a 9 hole golf course and two restaurants. For the less serious golfer there is a 9 hole "pitch & putt" course about 3km away.
There are lots of activities in the summer - street markets & fairs - firework displays - concerts & "son et lumière" including the amazing reinactment of the last battle of the 100 Years War.
The nearest large supermarkets are about 10 km away at Ste. Foy la Grande or Castillon la Bataille. Both towns have very good weekly markets and several good and very reasonable restaurants.
Just off the D936 roughly half way between Libourne & Bergerac, 5 km north of Dordogne river.

The cottage is fully furnished and equipped. Sheets and towels are provided although we do ask people to bring their own swimming towels. Cots and high chairs are also available if required.
