Lovely apartment forming part of a beautifully restored country house in Acequias, Lecrin Valley´s most attractive village. The apartment is set in gardens with a large pool, and numerous patios, the whole site oriented to the south-west.
Acequias is very accessible from the main Granada-Motril highway, yet very quiet. Granada and Malaga airports are 30 mins and 1 hr 30 mins drive respectively. The beach is 30 mins drive. Sierra Nevada ski resort is 30 mins drive. Walking trails lead out from the village to the whole of Sierra Nevada National Park... or just to the nearby village of Niguelas with its shops and friendly tapas bars.
The apartment is spacious and light. It sleeps two in the main bedroom, but can sleep up to three more in the living room. There is a large balcony out front overlooking the garden for those who like to eat al fresco.
Casa Tia Maria is a lovely house set in its own gardens in the village of Acequias, some 30 km south from Granada on the south-west facing side of the Valley of Lecrin. It is the "Casa Señorial" (most important house) in the village. We restored it and enhanced it with a large pool and more trees, which ten years on have grown lush and verdant.
Here we have a guest apartment, El Balcon, which is available for rental. The apartment occupies the ground floor of the left wing of the house and comprises a large double bedroom, a bathroom with full bath and washing machine, a large living room which leads up to the kitchen/dining room, and a large terrace balcony which overlooks the gardens and pool, the perfect setting for dinner or breakfast al fresco.
There is a sofa bed and an extra single bed in the living room which enables up to three more people to stay in the apartment, thus it can accommodate up to five persons in total. In the summer months the extensive outside space enclosed by the walls of the garden means that children can play in complete safety.
As befits a historic house, the carpentry and railings are very much of the period but restored, but the kitchen has all modern appliances such as microwave, fridge freezer, kettle, coffee machine and food mixer, and is generally well equipped. In any case we are within easy reach if you need anything.

Persons with serious medical conditions should notethat the nearest full hospital to Acequias is 25 minutes away in Granada, although there is a 24 hour clinic in nearby Durcal.

Lecrin Valley / Acequias area
There are plenty of things to do around Acequias, for example visiting the pretty villages just a few minutes’ drive away with exotic names such as Melegis and Restabal. The villages in the Valley make a pleasant excursion and most have bars and restaurants.
Granada, an ancient Moorish town famous for its history, architecture and the extraordinary Alhambra Palace and Gardens, is just 30 minutes away.
A half-hour’s drive to the east lies the Alpujarras – a unique mountainous area of ancient hill villages with cube-like, whitewashed houses which are very similar to Berber settlements found in North Africa.
Drive south for just 30 minutes to the Costa Tropical, which has been unspoilt by package tourism. Salobreña is the nearest beach town to Acequias and a popular holiday resort.
Enjoy the superb skiing facilities at Sol y Nieve, the international ski resort high in the Sierras. Sol y Nieve is an easy and spectacular drive from Acequias. The 1997 World Downhill Ski Championships were held there.
Visit Andalucian cities such as Seville – the capital of Andalucia is home to the most famous bullring in Spain and the Giralda Cathedral – or Cordoba, home to the famous Mezquita.
However you may never leave the Valley during your entire stay. Every village has its fiesta and during the summer these happen every weekend.
Each season has its flowers in Acequias - almond blossom in February, brilliant red poppies in May and bougainvillea in high summer. The countryside is wonderful for walking, horse-riding, mountain-biking, birdwatching and golf. This part of Spain also has some of the clearest skies in Europe and shooting stars are a familiar sight. The village lies right on the edge of the Sierra Nevada National Park, an area of rich contrast, ranging from the snowfields of Sol y Nieve to the lush vegetation of subtropical valleys, home to many of Spain's most precious animals and butterflies.
Acequias is off the Granada to Motril highway, taking the junction "Durcal/Niguelas" (25 mins from Granada or Salobreña), then going south 5 mins past the Niguelas turnoff. Tia Maria faces the church.

Rental Notes: Generally we do not have specific changeover dates, and if you wish to book a period where the last or first day overlaps with a prior booking we can make arrangements to accoodate you in a B&B for those few days.
If there is a changeover the same day we request that guests do not arrive until 2 pm lunchtime and that they check out by 11 am.
Our cleaner Elaina lives in the village and although she speaks little English, she does speak German in addition to Spanish.
The pool is available for use during all daylight hours, however parents must supervise children at all times and the use of the pool is entirely at your own risk.
