Local activities in and around Bodrum, Aegean Coast
The nearby cosmoplitan resort of Bodrum has much to offer the holidaymaker .The name was taken from the towns original name of Halicarnassus. Bodrums history is spectacular and 2 main testaments to this are still open for visitors today. The 16th century castle of St Peter has impressive views over the harbour and across to the Greek Island of Kos. The other is the site where the Mausoleum, the tomb of King Mausolos once stood. The main coach and dolmüş (small local bus) station is excellent for access around the peninsula and to other towns and cities in Turkey. This is also home to one of Turkeys timeless traditions, Bodrums bazaar, here tourists can enjoy all the scenes, sounds and aromas from within which only a Turkish market can create.
Yalıkavak has grown in size over recent years and is very much a place where the locals welcome foreigners with open arms. The area boast a new marina that services yachts from all over the world. There is a small weekly market, an old style bazaar & shopping area with a few boutiques dotted around. The restaurants in the town centre and on the sea front are popular with locals and tourists alike. It's so very easy to sit in a waterside bistro, sample the delights of the sea and watch the world go by!
