Access to the apartment is via a steep road from the village and then a flight of stairs. Therefore would not be suitable for people with walking difficulties.
Local activities in and around Trevignano Romano, Lazio
Atina is an ancient village located in the Ciociorcia region of Southern Lazio. The apartment is a 3 minute walk from the centre of the village which has all amenities including several bars & restaurants. Market day in Atina is each Monday when local farmers will display their produce in the village square and surrounding roads. The local food which can be sampled in all of the nearby restaurants is known to be some of the best regional Italian cooking in the entire country. Prices when compared to other regions are surprisingly low for delicious home cooked food. Many establishments will only serve produce from the valley, including the local cabernet wine which is excellent. All around the area are spectacular mountain villages, each with their own identity. Part of the pleasure of visiting La Ciociorcia is to sample the "real Italy" and meet the people who live and work here.
A 45 minute drive inland will lead to the ski resort of Pescasseroli. The drive here will pass through some wonderful scenery including the unusual town of Opi. This area borders on the Southern part of the Abruzzo National Park where it is possible to view bears, wolves, deer and wild boar. A 1 hour drive in the opposite direction will take you to the coastal resorts of Sperlunga or Gaeta. Beautiful sandy beaches, often quite empty other than during July and August.
Other local attractions to Atina include a 9 hole golf course at San Donato and a water park at Rosanisco which is ideal for the children and for those who want to relax in a beach enviroment.
The spectacular abbey of Monte Cassino is a 20 minute car journey away. Visit the musuem and see in graphic detail how the monastry was destroyed during the war and how it has since been re built. The views from here are truly amazing.
Just 15 kms from Atina is the nature reserve and lake at Posta Fibreno. Take a pedalo across the lake to sample the peace and tranquility.
From either of the Rome airports or from Naples - take the A1 motorway and exit at Cassino (south from Rome and north from Naples). Atina is a 20 minute car journey from here.
