Quinta das Casuarinas is a comfortable home, with a wonderful feeling of privacy and seclusion - being set in it's own grounds of 3 acres. The southerly panoramic views are towards the village of Portelas, the historic old town of Lagos and the sea where there many restaurants and miles of beautiful sandy beaches - only 2 miles away. Bourganvillea, Morning Glory, Oleander and Acacias grow abundantly around the villa.
There are lots of covered, shady areas for escaping the mid-day sun - one overlooks the huge "furnished" pool terrace - providing seating for the supervision of young children - and an area for alfresco dining with a BBQ.
The west side of the villa has further covered areas - a 2nd dining area plus a comfortable outside "sitting room" from here you can enjoy a morning coffee or evening drinks with a view of the garden and the setting sun. There are many beautiful golf courses within easy driving distance. Plus Easy access to the West Coast's cooling breezes and popular surfing.
The 30ft sitting-room - has 3 large sofas + chairs, satellite TV with BBC, Sky,DVD & Video CD/Audio facilities. For chilly evenings there is a wood burning stove - which doubles up as an open fire . The sliding doors lead out to the covered dining terrace with a gas BBQ near the pool.
From the pool terrace there are lovely, southerly, sweeping views of the countryside and the village of Portelas - ( towards the old historic town of Lagos and the sea 2 miles away ). The swimming pool is surrounded by a huge pool terrace, plenty of sunbathing space all around it (or space for a game of football!) and a covered terrace for escaping the midday sun.
There is a good supply of sunbeds and pool side furniture and there are 2 large gates for keeping over enthusiastic toddlers from getting to the pool unsupervised.
Around the villa there are several shaded spots for a quiet read - a game of cards or a peaceful drink.
Next to the kitchen is a second sitting room and dining area . Here there is also a wood burning stove - and a separate TV with freeview - including BBC TV and Radio - - the sliding doors lead onto the westerly terrace - with a dining area plus our outside "sitting-room".

Local activities in and around Lagos, Western Algarve
Coast/Beach - only 5 minutes drive - there is an abundance of beautiful sandy beaches all around Lagos. Windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing and jet skiing all available. Surfing and surf schools on the west coast beaches 25 minutes drive away. Day trips and equipment organised from Lagos, or you can hire boards etc on Armado beach.
Lagos is a walled town full of lovely old buildings. There is a mass of bars, restaurants and interesting little shops. The local produce market offers a huge choice of fish, flowers and fresh fruit, and it is still possible to eat a simple seafood meal with wine for around £7 per head. There is an attractive marina and lots of beach bars for lunch .
Horse riding stables are within 5 minutes drive, and tennis courts within 3 miles. Painting classes are available for most of the year.
Slide and Splash water park 30minutes. Zoo 10 minutes. Marine Water Park about 30 minutes. Information about banks, doctors is all available in the villa. Plus information about Safari trips into the Algarve Interior !! Boat Trips and Barbeques etc etc.
There is a multi-plex cinema in Portimao - a Cultural Centre in Lagos - and The Old Slave Market in Lagos where you can enjoy the work of local artists and crafts people.
There is a mass of restaurants, bars and clubs within a few miles - no shortage of choice to suit everyones taste.
Distances:
Portelas is 1/2 mile from the house - it has a shop and 3 village restaurants
Lagos - the lovely old walled town is 2 miles
Silves - the old Moorish Capital with it's castle and cathedral, Moorish sculptures, Cork Museum - 40mins drive.
Caldas de Monchique - the small spa town in the hills - famous for Chicken Piri Piri - apprx 40 mins drive
Cape St.Vincent - the most south westerly tip of Europe - next to the small town of Sagres where the fish couldn't be fresher ! - approx 45 mins drive.
Faro- the old town and the Cathedral are worth a visit -about 1 hours drive.
A map, keys and directions are sent when the final rent and breakage deposit has been payed.

Rental Notes: The change over day is normally Saturday . Out of peak season we are able to be more flexable.
20 % deposit is payable to secure the booking and the remainder 8 weeks in advance - plus a separate cheque against breakages / telephone of £200 which I don't bank - I hold as security.
Ascensau - our maid comes in on weekday mornings and changeover days . All towels and linen are included apart from pool towels. The towels are not to be taken away from the house to the beach or slide parks.
Usually access to the villa is after 2pm at the beginning of the rental and on the departure day 10am . Luggage can be left at the villa before 2pm on your arrival day. On your departure day you can leave your luggage to be picked up after 10am - providing you vacate the house - in order for it to be prepared .
I would say that car hire is essential - I can recommend a resonable and reliable local company . ( Plus there is a bus stop at the bottom of the hill and taxis are cheap. )
