Unlike the remote western side of the Island a car is not necessary, as Garajau is well serviced by public transport.

The apartment features an open-plan lounge with west and south facing patio doors. The south facing patio door opens onto the very large conservatory with superb sea views, which in turn open onto the large, private, south-facing terrace.
The private terrace is the main feature of the property. It is impossible to describe the breathtaking views, the space and the ambience. The glass wall set in a stainless steel frame, at the end of the terrace gives breathtaking views. Whether lying on the sun bed, sitting on a chair or just aimlessly walking around the terrace, the changing colours of the sea are always visible . There is a further west facing enclosed balcony which catches the evening sun and is accessible from the double bedroom and west facing lounge patio door.
There is a dining room which seats 6 and a very spacious kitchen with a long breakfast bar. There are two bedrooms & two bathrooms, one en-suite. The double bedroom opens onto the west-facing balcony, with sea views, while the twin bedded room has views of both the sea and the mountains. There is also a luggage room to store cases and outdoor walking boots.
The terrace affords panoramic views of the Atlantic with plenty of space to walk around, sunbathe, relax on the sun lounges & generally chill out and watch the ships go by. On cooler days the spacious conservatory offers a pleasant outdoor area to relax.

Local activities in and around Garajau, Madeira
Located on the sunny, dry, southern coast of Madeira, Garajau is situated, midway between the airport, and the capital, Funchal. Taxi journey time to both is just 12 minutes. Garajau is an ideal location for those wanting a holiday away from the busy city of Funchal, yet within easy reach.
Garajau has long been known to be one of Madeira’s high class residential areas & is named after the black-headed sea birds, terns, which nest in the cliffs.
Just below the town is a 200m high headland with a fine "miradouro" - a statue of Christ with outstretched arms, similar to the larger statues in Rio de Janeiro or Lisbon. This is a wonderful spot to watch the sun go down and it has great views west to the Bay of Funchal.
The coastline here at Garajau is also a conservation area, and was one of Europe’s first underwater nature reserves, providing sanctuary for whales, dolphins and seals. The sea shore has now been updated and opened up with a new cable car to take visitors down onto the beach and a beachfront restaurant.
There are a number of local, Italian and other restaurants and a number of bars within walking distance in Garajau. With the old town of Funchal at the bus terminus in Funchal and the numerous restaurants in Caniço just a bus ride away, there is enormous choice for eating out. Indeed Garajau also has some very good take-away restaurants to facilitate al-fresco dining on the superb private terrace.
Palheiro Golf, 92 par Championship course, with stunning views and unbeatable scenery, is just 10 minutes by car or taxi.
Garajau is also ideal as a location to start the many levada walks in Madeira, and if you require a guide this can be booked with the local hotel.
The coastal area of Caniço de Baixo boasts three world renowned diving schools.
The local hotel welcomes outside guests and only charges a one off small fee for the use of the pool and facilities.
Golf
Palheiro Golf course is less than 20 minutes away.
The spectacular 27-hole Santo do Serra golf course is also within easy reach
Hicking and Walking
Garajau is a good location from where one can hike and walk the islands amazing levada irrigation system spanning 2,500 kilometres. We recommend Turitrans. They take small parties of no more that 14 out at a time.
Transfer to & from airport is arranged. Once clear of customs, you will be met by your taxi in the arrivals hall. Payment can be made direct to the driver. The charge is €25.00 [Euro] each way.

You will need to arrange and book your own flights. Charter Flights are available from Bristol, Birmingham, Exeter, Glasgow, Gatwick, Manchester, Luton, Newcastle. Average Flight time 3 hrs 30 minutes. British Airways fly daily from Gatwick and the Portugeuse airline TAP fly Thursdays and Sundays from Heathrow and daily from Gatwick. Easyjet now fly daily from Stanstead and 3 times per week from Bristol. Flights on charter airlines can be booked via the web or any travel agency. We tend to use Airflights on the web.
