Apple Tree Lodge is a cosy little cottage overlooking the sea in an absolutely peaceful area in Ireland´s most attractive region. It has a nice little garden. The village of Glenbeigh has more things to offer than most other villages in Ireland among them "Rossbeigh Beach"(4 m of safe, sandy beaches and dunes), "Dooks" golf-course (18 hole, par 71, 5582 m), Caragh River and lake (salmon & trout), a castle, shops, three restaurants, 4 pubs, 2 riding-stables, a sports-complex and bike-rental facilities as well as a brand-new(2008)children´s playground.
Please note, that the house is only available/bookable from Saturday to Saturday between 25-04-09 and 17-10-09(min.1 week) It is bookable any other day outside that period of time Min.booking all year round:one week You will find the free periods under "availability" and the exact prices under" view details"on this page.
From Glenbeigh you follow the"Kerry Way", Ireland´s most famous walk and at the end of the road (which for the last 300 yards is not tarmaced), you will find two charming little cottages"Apple Tree Lodge"and the neighbouring"Minnie´s Cottage".
On entering you see the spacious living area with open-plan, sitting-room cum dining-room cum kitchen.
There is also a separate bedroom with a king-size double-bed and a bathroom with shower and toilet. You will find stairs up to a gallery, from where you have a great view of mountains and sea. There is a fold-up (futon) couch convertible into a double-bed plus Sat.TV with two dishes(one for German, one for English stations). The kitchen downstairs contains an oven, a fridge and a washing-machine, the dining-room area has a large, wooden table and up to six chairs. There is a also a sofa, 2 armchairs, a radio and a large open fireplace. The house sleeps up to 4 people,we do recommend it for couples and small families of 3.
Outside you have a little garden with a picnic-bench for eating outside and there are also some deck-chairs. The car-park is right in front of the house.
Apple Tree Lodge is about 3 miles from the picturesque village of Glenbeigh, a little more than half a mile from the sea and only about twice this distance from one of Ireland´s finest sandy beaches"Rossbeigh". You have Caragh River, for good salmon and sea-trout fishing and excellent game angling at Waterville Lake(25m). Sea-angling for bass and flat-fish in Rossbeigh, Kells (10 m)and St.Fintan´s Bay (25m). In summer and autumn good mackerel and pollock fishing from the cliffs in Kells.
Apart from Dooks, there are 4 more of Ireland´s top-golf courses in the area: Mahoney´s Point and Killeen in Killarney (25 m), Waterville (25 m) and Tralee(40m) But literally every little village has a course such as Killorglin (10 m) or Beaufort(15 m). Glenbeigh is a great starting point for touring the many sights of the gulf-stream-favoured south-west.

Glenbeigh is the ideal centre for touring the south-west. See the famous Ring of Kerry (approx.100 m)one of the great panoramic roads of the world the Dingle Penisula, Derrynane National Park or Ireland´s highest mountains, the"McGillycuddys Reeks" (about 3600 ft.) and Ireland´s attraction no.1 the Skellig Islands. The world-famous panoramic "Ring of Kerry" road is only half a mile away.
From the house you are looking at the Dingle Peninsula with more national monuments than anywhere else on the island. The highest mountains in Ireland the McGillycuddy´s Reeks are about half an hours drive away and Derrynane National Park an hour. But, as your host, an author of a book about Ireland would tell you first and foremost, weather permitting you must visit the Skelligs, two most spectacular rocks 7 sm off the coast, one being a bird sanctuary, the other an old early Christian monastic site high up in the clouds.
On the way there stop at the chocolate factory in St.Fintan´s Bay (by appointment to her majesty the Queen) a most remarkable little enterprise. In Glenbeigh you will find 2 shops, 3 restaurants, 4 to 5 pubs, two riding-stables, 2 bycicle hire stations,a sports-complex , the church and a brand-new (2008) childrens playground.
Having paid the balance you will receive a map and all other necessary details.
