The old distillery and wine store of this Charentaise farmhouse have been sympathetically restored to provide a luxury 2 bedroom gite. Set in 3 acres of meadowland which includes a 12 x 6m pool, Les Tilleuls is in the small picturesque hamlet of Echebrune, close to the mediaeval town of Pons with its restaurants and supermarkets and to the larger Roman towns of Cognac and Saintes. Also within easy reach are the beaches of the Atlantic coast.
The surrounding countryside is ideal for the walker or cyclist, off road lanes meander through the vineyards, cycles are available free of charge. For golfers there are excellent 18 hole courses at Cognac, Saintes and Royan.
Le Chai is a 2 bedroomed cottage, one master double and a twin bedded room, the accommodation has been formed from the store and distillery that originally housed barrels of wine and produced 'eau de vie' - the basic ingredient of cognac. Built in 1850 the farmhouse has been renovated to reflect the days gone by and features original stone walls and oak beams, the lounge is dominated by the 'swans kneck alambic distillerie' which provided cognac to the area for a hundred years. It now forms an amazing backdrop to a comfortable lounge with two and three seater sofas, UK satellite television, radio, dvd and cd players, coffee table, plus a selection of books and board games.
Le Chai has been equipped and furnished to a high standard whilst retaining its character, the kitchen is fully fitted with gas hob and electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge/freezer. Le Chai can be let all year as it is fully centrally heated. Plus the local baker calls every morning before 9 o'clock.

Le Chai along with La Grange, a four bedroomed gite, make up Les Tilleuls which is set in 3 acres of meadowland and includes a 12metre x 6m swimming pool. It is also ideal for ball games, kite flying or practising the golf swing. Les Tilleuls is surrounded by vineyards and fields of sunflowers, wheat, barley and maize while retaining a view of the 11th century church which overlooks Echebrune.
Echebrune is a rural hamlet set in the rolling countryside, the locals are mainly viticulteurists and provide the basic ingredient, eau de vie, to the large cognac producers, Martell, Hennessy, Remy Martin et al, although many distill their own and welcome visitors for a degustation (tasting). Echebrune is 5 mins from the mediaeval town of Pons, which has all the services banks, restaurants and supermarkets, a weekly market on a Saturday and pretty bars to in front of the Hotel de Ville. It is also minutes from the Roman towns of Saintes, with its amphitheatre and walks along the Charente and of course the beautiful old town of Cognac. Three good 18 hole golf courses can be found within easy reach at Royan, Saintes and Cognac. This part of France is also renowned for its micro climate and is second only to the Cote D'Azur. The pretty fishing ports of the Girdonde are close by where you can travel the Green Route along the coast stopping off for lunch by the quayside before arriving at the amazing beaches of St Georges or the resort and beaches of Royan. Or, travelling further along the coast to the Cote Sauvage and the wind surfing beaches of the Atlantic.
Echebrune is only 10 minutes from Junction 36 of the A10 motorway from Paris-Bordeaux on the D700 towards Barbezieux. Les Tilleuls is also only 1 hour from the airports of La Rochelle and Bordeaux.
