From our front balcony you can see the surf break and the wind surfing. From our rear balcony or by sitting up in bed, you can see the Kite surfing in Shark’s Bay. When the surf is working, there is a hotel bar you can sit in and watch the surfers go past! The kite surfing is pretty full on and whilst you could walk to the beach, it is cheap enough to hire a truck for your stay and drive across the National Park using the tracks.
Wind and Kite surfers paradise. From November to April it is windy. This means that our apartment is either a 6 minute walk to the beach or a 3 minute run depending on the strength of the wind. From our front balcony you can see the surf break and the wind surfing. From our rear balcony or by sitting up in bed, you can see the Kite surfing in Shark’s Bay. When the surf is working, there is a hotel bar you can sit in and watch the surfers go past! For a non windsurfer there is shelter so you don’t need to suffer the cheap beach exfoliation. Just watch out for the sun it is strong and should be respected. No mad dogs and Englishmen!!!
We found somewhere still relatively undeveloped with 3 wind surfing centres 6 minutes from our Italian finished apartment!

There are two main banks on the island BCA & CAIXA ECONOMICA. Post Office; Follow the main road past Tam Tams to the end – it’s on the other side of the road, to the left. Stamps take up a lot of space on postcards!
Public phones are also situated on the way to the beach up the road between the Cinema and the BCA bank. There is also an internet cafe two streets across from Tam Tam where you can also make calls.
There are several small supermarkets selling fresh fruit and vegetables within Santa Maria town. Fresh fish is also readily available.
Due to their postion within this winter trade wind belt the Cape Verde Islands boast near perfect windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing conditions from October to June.
