Local activities in and around Vera Playa, Almeria
Vera is a very Spanish town that is full of character. It has a beautiful town square, gardens and a spectacular bull ring. It holds a market on Saturdays.
Vera Playa covers the beach area between Puerto Rey and Villaricos. Its blue flag beaches stretch for 8 km. Naturalists have their own 3 km stretch of beach, restaurants, cafe, hotel and apartments. It also offers the only water park in the area, Parque Acuatico, open from May to September.
Villaricos has a delightful marina and promenade.
Garrucha is a lively fishing town, famed for its "Garrucha Prawns" and seafood restaurants. It has a magnificant beach and promenade. Friday is market day.
Aguilas has its own micro climate. Its average annual temperature is 23 degrees centigrade. Activities include rock-climbing and trekking. It is famed for its underwater landscapes making it popular with scuba divers from across the world.
Mojacar Playa has an array of excellent restaurants, bars, nightclubs, shops and beautiful beach.
Mojacar Pueblo is ancient sugar-cube style Moorish village located on top of a mountain. It offers stunning views of the coast and countryside. It holds its market on Wednesdays.
Only two hours away are the Sierra Nevada mountains, offering excellent hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. Also Granada, with its fabulous Moorish palace, the Alhambra, is well worth a visit.
Near top class 18 hole/9 hole golf courses: the famous international standard Desert Springs; Valle del Este; Marina Golf and Cortijo Grande. All within a fifteen minute drive.
Mini-Hollywood, situated in the Tabernas Desert, is a mock-up of an American Wild West village. It is famed for the filming of a Fistful of Dollars/The Good, the Bad and the Ugly/Magnificient Seven. Entertainment includes mock cowboy shoot-outs, performing parrots and a zoo.
Nearby is Cabo de Gata national park, made up of coastal dunes, saline lagoons and hills of volcanic origin.
