There is a shaded sandpit close to the pool for small children and a large covered children's play area next to the boules pitch, where toys, table tennis and pool table are available for children of all ages. La rose de l’Isle is situated in the West of the Dordogne alongside the valley of the River Isle in what is known as the ‘’Périgord Blanc’’.
The White Périgord covers the west and central part of the Dordogne, following the course of the river Isle and the limestone screes, rich in quarries which produced the white stones for the chef-lieu, or préfecture town, Périgueux, bang in the centre of the département. To the west, bordering the Charente, is Ribérac and its area, the Ribéracois, typified by its beautiful Romanesque churches, and the vast, mysterious Double forest.
La Rose is situated close to the pretty, bustling little town of Neuvic sur Isle. In Neuvic there are bakers, butchers, chemists and banks as well as restaurants and bars and a supermarket. Post and medical services are also in the town. Neuvic has a local produce market on Tuesday and Saturday mornings.

Local activities in and around Neuvic, Aquitaine/Dordogne
Neuvic boasts a botanical park with a large collection of trees and shrubs and all things green. For the more energetically inclined there are a huge number of hiking trails and cycle tracks in this lovely area to our and we are also able to provide cycles for those who have not brought their own. Canoes are available locally for our guests to hire. A full list of all of the local attractions, restaurants and walks etc is available in each Gite and we will be delighted to advise you on the best places to visit.
Lascaux is on the western edges of the Massif Central and the northern slopes of the Pyrenees are noted for an exceptional concentration of Palaeolithic caves. In fact, there are no fewer than one hundred and thirty sanctuaries, the most renowned of which is Lascaux. The original cave is now closed to the public to protect the site but an exact replica of the cave has been created 200 meters away and is well worth a visit.
Sarlat is about one and a half hours drive from La Rose. The drive down to the town is spectacular and takes in some breathtaking scenery along the Dordogne river valley. Sarlat itself is a beautiful mediaeval town with a long history and a whole culture based upon the culinary uses of ducks and geese.
We are still exploring the area along the coast and will add more reports on the coast as we research them but a must is the Bassin d’Arcachon. Here you have mile after mile of sandy beaches small fishing hamlets and lots for the kids to do. We can recommend the Pilat Dune which is the largest sand dune in Europe, Margaret and I slowly climbed it as Jamie ran up…not for the faint hearted…the views, however are breathtaking and it is really a great day out.
For the not so energetic of you there are so many places to rest and relax and try out the fantastic fresh seafood.
