Attractive, central London flat, free broadband - Great neighbourhood, extremely close to transport
Apartment with 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 6
A superb modern apartment in an historic Georgian townhouse, built in 1774. Overlooking a park (Highbury Fields), it is less than a minute from the underground (Victoria Line), and 3 minutes from a supermarket. The apartment, at the top of the building affording it fine views, is attractive and comfortable with one double bedroom room, and one twin. Highbury Place is one of the most elegant and sought-after streets in Islington, itself a very fashionable part of London. The house was built as a grand townhouse as London was expanding in the eighteenth century. At the time, the surrounding land was devoted to dairy farming and to this day the Fields remain as a reminder of the area's rural past. In 1774, horse and carriage would whisk you to the centre of town, now the area is superbly connected by public transport - rail, underground and tube. King's Cross/St Pancras is just a stop away on the tube and is the new home for the Eurostar, the express train to Paris and Brussels.

The apartment is one minute from the Highbury and Islington underground which means you can be in Oxford Street, London's most famous shopping street in just 10 minutes. Equally, Soho, The West End, Westmister and the Southbank are easy to get to from the flat, which makes it an ideal base from which to explore London or to reach business meetings. But you will enjoy getting to know the local area too. Part of an historic Grade II listed terraced house, the apartments lies at the top of one of London's 'destination streets' (Upper Street), renowned for its shops, theatres and restaurants.
The house overlooks Highbury Fields, "the jewel of our borough," according to London's colourful mayor, and local resident Boris Johnson which is "positively bursting with artistic and cultural delights" (including fabulous listed buildings and monuments, tennis courts and a public swimming pool and gym.) Walk up Highbury Place and you are soon in Highbury Barn, one of London’s attractive villages and home to several specialist shops including La Fromagerie and Frank Godfrey, an outstanding organic, free-range butcher. Many of our guests comment on the apartment's attractive 'feel', making it the perfect place to come home to. (Please note this is a non-smoking apartment).

Local activities in and around Islington, South East
The flat is located close to where leafy Highbury, stylish Islington and youthful Holloway meet. So without ever going into the centre of London you will find a lot of what capital is famous for in easy walking distance.
Green Spaces: Highbury Fields, with its swimming pool, gym and tennis courts, is on the doorstep. On a sunny day it’s a lovely place to spend some time, perhaps taking in a coffee at the Oasis Café. It’s one of London’s smaller public parks, but the biggest open space in Islington.
Fine food and dining: Upper Street is one of London’s most celebrated dining locations. The restaurants range from high-dining to friendly bistro with a few chains thrown in. You’ll also find plenty of nightlife along Upper Street including clubs and cocktail bars. Try: Ottolenghi (Remy award-winning, seriously stylish), Le Mercury (lovely, long-established pre-restaurant diner) and Gem (charming Kurdish café-style restaurant). But really the possibilities are endless.
Serious shopping: Again, Upper Street is the alternative to the West End. As well as the designer chains (Whistles, Ghost, Toast and Brora) you’ll find bespoke tailors Charlie Allen and brother Joe, the furniture shop TwentyOne and interior shop Aria among many other very individual stores.
Performing arts: From the world-famous Almeida theatre to the Saldler’s Wells dance venue, from the King’s Head theatre pub to the Hen and Chickens comedy club, the area boasts destination live performance spaces – and it’s all in easy walking distance of the flat. And if you are into pop and rock, the Garage music venue is reopening after refurbishment very soon.
Museums and galleries: London’s national isntitutions are a tube ride away, but Highbury has a couple of excellent private galleries including the Hart Gallery (contemporary art and ceramics) and the Estorick Collection of modern Italian art.
Sport: Arsenal have just moved into their new stadium home. A must if you can get a ticket.
The apartment lies at the junction of Upper Street and Holloway Road (the A1) in Islington, which is in north London. The Automobile Association (www.theaa.com) provide route maps from any postcode.
