Nestled on the idyllic west coast of Rhodes, Fanes is a charming traditional village, an absolute must for those wanting to experience a real taste and feel for Greek island life. Unlike the opposite east coast the west is more underdeveloped maintaining its true charm and tradition.There are many exceptional historic sites on this side of the island, not least the site of Ancient Kamiros which dates back to Mycenaean times.
Wander up to the Temple of Athena and marvel and the wonderful views, both seaward and inland. Not to be missed is the quaint port of Kamiros Skala, whre there are 2 excellent fish tavernas.You can also sail to the island of Chalki from here. Meander down to the fabulous Kastellos.
The castle here was built in 1472 and overlooks the islands of Aliminia and Chalki andthe islets of Makri, Strongyli and Tragoussa and inland offers excellent views of Mount Attavyros and the charming village of Siena, home to the local firewater souma, and has some of the most sought after honey on the island.
