Villa Sophie, which was completed in 2006, stands in a large private plot of 1,000m2 on the outskirts of the village of Kokkino Chorio. Villa Sophie has far reaching views over the village to the White Mountains and across Souda Bay to the Akrotiri peninsula. The large 50m2 swimming pool is surrounded by sun bathing terraces which all have glorious views across the bay. The Apokoronas region to the east of Chania is where most of our holiday villas are situated, close to the sandy beaches at Almirida, Kalives and Georgioupolis.

Villa Sophie has been built and furnished in a traditional style but offers up to the minute fittings and equipment. In keeping with its luxury status, the villa is air-conditioned throughout. The ground floor consists of a fully fitted kitchen, dining area and lounge which is all open plan. The focal points of the lounge area are the beautiful stone fireplace and the wooden french doors opening up to two balconies with views. For your entertainment there is a TV with satellite reception (not SKY) and DVD player, CD player and Hi-fi system. DVD's, CD's, books and board games are provided.
The kitchen is equipped to a high standard with stainless steel appliances including a large fridge/freezer, oven and ceramic hob, microwave and dishwasher. There is a washing machine, located in the ground floor bathroom. Completing the ground floor accommodation is one of the double bedrooms which has its own private, furnished, side terrace and a bathroom with bath, shower, wc and washbasin.
On the first floor there is another double bedroom (with private balcony) and a twin bedded room which has access to the main upper terrace. The bedrooms all have plenty of storage with wardrobes and drawer storage space, bedside cabinets, bedside lights and hairdryers.
Outside, the private 50m2 pool is surrounded by sunbathing terraces with sun loungers, umbrellas and small tables for drinks etc. The other external spaces are well furnished with outdoor tables and chairs for al fresco dining. There is a BBQ, situated slightly away from the pool area. Part of the garden has been planted with aromatic herbs which the cook is welcome to use. The villa and its grounds are within a walled and gated plot with private parking for at least 2 cars.
The property is centrally heated which makes it a good choice for early or late season holidays when some heating may be required if the evenings are chilly.

Local activities in and around Almirida, Crete
The large bay that makes up the seaside resorts of Almirida and Kalives has many separate, safe, sandy beaches, most with full facilities. Almirida is a thriving seaside resort with a windsurfing school and tavernas and bars lining the sea front. There are a couple of mini-markets, a bakery, patisserie, a wine shop and a newsagents. Mountain bikes can be hired and there is also a small taxi rank. The Almirida Beach Hotel is open to non residents and has internet facilities as well as a 10 pin bowling lane. There is a limited bus service to Kalives and Chania. Kalives is a working village as well as being a tourist destination so in addition to the beaches, tavernas, bars and tourist shops you will find many local shops as well as a fairly big supermarket of the INKA chain. Banking, post office, pharmacy and petrol station facilities are available in Kalives. There is a bus service to Chania.
Kokkino Chorio - is famous for its part in the filming of Zorba The Greek. There's a fine traditional taverna in the village square and a well stocked mini market. The village boasts some of the most stunning views out to sea and has deservedly become a desirable location both for permanent residence and as a holiday destination. There is a glass blowing factory in the village with a shop and a café.
Plaka – between Almirida and Kokkino Chorio, has everything you need, a petrol station, well stocked mini markets, tavernas and a couple of bars that are popular with locals and tourists alike.
There are many marked walks in this lush area. Extending about 10 kms or so inland it is rich in olive and citrus groves, pasture lands and tiny hamlets rarely visited by tourists. In the spring-time, the fields, groves and tracks abound in an endless variety of flora including many species which are endemic to Crete. Keen birdwatchers will find a large number of local as well as migratory birds to see, ranging from tiny warblers to large buzzards and even the odd kite.

Rental Notes: Ask us for a booking form! We ask for a low deposit of 10% with the balance due 6 weeks prior to the start of the rental. Prices are for the villa for up to 7 persons + a cot. There are discounts of 15% for a single couple and 10% for parties of 3 wishing to book this villa except for any July and August dates.
The normal change-over day is Tuesday but this is flexible so please ask us. Charter flights from the UK to Chania airport are on Tuesdays (45 minutes drive). Flights to Heraklion (1 1/2 to 2 hours drive) are available most days of the week either on a charter flight or scheduled with GB airways/Easyjet who fly from Gatwick and Manchester and with Jet 2 from Leeds/Bradford airport. Maid service and linen change is provided twice a week.
