Historie van het oude Groenlo
The fortified town of Groenlo - popularly known as Grolle - has stood through the centuries at the eastern part of Holland next to the German border. Originally called Grunloh, it was founded on the banks of the river De Slinge long before the year 1000. Soon afterwards the Calixtus Church was constructed in the town centre. The first of the town's massive walls was built between 1226 and 1234. In 1277 Groenlo (meaning 'green forest') was granted a charter by Reinoud van Geire. In 1977 the occasion of 'seven hundred years of the charter' was celebr
