La Valaiserie - Sympathetically restored farmhouse
Cottage with 1 Bedroom, Sleeps 2, Garden
La Valaiserie is a lovingly restored traditional farmhouse dating back to the 1600's. The cottage was in fact an extension to the original building and is dated 1736.
It is situated in a peaceful location surrounded by working farms and beautiful rolling countryside.
The property has a spacious double bedroom together with addional single bed OR cot suitable for a youngster or baby if required. Lovely bathroom with double ended bath and shower. The open plan Kitchen/Living room has a woodburning stove. The kitchen has a cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. There is a downstairs WC and free access to the owners separate utility room with washing machine and dryer.
Easily reached from the ferry ports of Caen (approx 53 miles) and Cherbourg 85 miles. The roads are superb and for those of you who have never driven abroad before this will be an ideal introduction.

Always a warm welcome
La Valaiserie is a typical “fermette”. South facing, it was originally built on a single level using an oak “cruck” frame (part of which still survives) which was then surrounded by 2 stone walls built with lime mortar in-filled with debris – almost a metre thick in places. The roof would have been thatched or covered with turf. The focal point was the huge open fire at one end around which daily life revolved with the rest of the building given over to animals. Once these granite buildings are warmed up they are quite efficient “thermostores” and take a long time to cool down.
These buildings and a hectare or so of land would have supplied food and housing for a typical family.
Close your eyes and think back to a time when daily life was governed both by the seasons? Long days during the summer and short ones during the winter. Everything was done by hand, sowing the crops, harvesting and milking. A time when there was no electricity, water came from the well and heat for warmth and cooking came from the fire?
