An enchanting, Grade 11 listed period cottage circa 1600, tucked down an old twitten (fish gut alley) in the oldest and most atmospheric part of Rye. Once, the surrounding houses were taverns for incoming mariners, now they are exquisite character homes. The cottage is tucked away in a secret corner off the ancient Church Square - you can hear the Church bells and organ playing.
The cottage is gorgeous in its simplicity - the whole structure is heavily beamed, beautifully renovated, comfortable and full of character. Stairs are steep, so no small children please. There is no garden, but the whole of Rye is at your feet.
Enter via the ancient steps to the living room with its wonderful varnished wood floor, seating for 3 on a comfortable large sofa, rugs in front of the large working fireplace. The pretty maple fitted kitchen with views over to other ancient houses lies at the back of the ground floor. A cleverly designed slate floored shower room with heated towel rail, WC & basin is through a tiny wooden door from the lounge.
Up steep, uneven cottage stairs to the lovely double bedroom with wardrobe, chest of drawers and Lloyd-loom chair by the leaded window overlooking the alley. Up more very steep, uneven cottage stairs to the second bedroom with 4ft bed, hanging and drawer space and lovely views through the dormer window. The house is all electric with plug-in- radiators for heating and smoke alarms throughout.
