Glenbeigh is situated on the"Ring of Kerry" in Ireland´s gulf-stream favoured South-West. The picturesque village stretches from Dingle Bay to Ireland´s highest mountains, the McGillycuddy´s Reeks (approx.1200 m).
Glenbeigh offers one of the countries top golf-courses "Dooks" (18 holes, par 71,5582 m) and superb trout and salmon-fishing on Caragh River&Lake. The house lies directly on the "Kerry Way", Ireland´s most renowned walk and offers stunning, panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, beaches, mountains and Glenbeigh castle. It is approx 2.5 km from the village with shops, 4 pubs, restaurants and two riding-stables and a sports-complex.At the beach you will find a brand-new(2008)childrens´playground.
The house is probably one of Ireland´s most attractive holiday-homes. A romantic, thatched lodge at the foot of Ireland´s highest mountains in most panoramic surroundings far away from the traffic, noise and hustle of modern times.
It is about 4 km to Rossbeigh Beach,one of the country's finest beaches (blue flag,6 km long, safe, sandy, at peak-times even supervised). Glenbeigh is the ideal starting point for touring the Ring of Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula, the mountains and the highlands of Glencar, and most of all (weather permitting) the Skellig Islands, 2 most spectacular, rugged rocks 2 sm off the coast.
Enjoy the splendid view of Dingle Bay, the beaches, mountains and Glenbeigh Castle. The house offers 3 bedrooms: bedroom A en suite with a French dbl. (1,4 m); Bedroom B with two singles and a bathroom (both upstairs) and finally bedroom C with two sgls. En suite(downstairs). Here you will also find the hall with the traditional half-door, the sitting-room with a cosy open fire, Sat-TV (mainly Irish and German), Radio and CD; the sauna cum shower; the dining-room area with antique, rustic furniture and a fully-fitted handcrafted kitchen (inclusive of dish-washer, fridge, oven etc.) Finally there is the utility-room with a washing-machine, a dryer,a micro-wave and a deep-freeze.
The house is heated by oil-fired central-heating and is fed by its own, private mountain well. Outside there is a large garden with mainly lawns, a patio, garden-furniture and ample car-park.
The house is suitable for no more than 5 adults+an infant. There is another similar house on the adjacent site. Both houses are owned by an Irish-German couple, so you have the option of the two according languages. This most extraordinary house is among the best booked holiday-houses in Ireland and the few weeks that are available should be booked well(!!) in advance. Local activities in and around Killarney, South West
This must be a golfer´s paradise. Five of the Irish top-ten golf courses are nearby,namely: Dooks (18 holes, Par 71,5582 m) in Glenbeigh(5 km),Mahoney´s Point and Killeen in Killarney (37 km); Waterville (40 km) and Tralee (55 km), but on top of that literally every village has its own course, such as Beaufort (20km) or Killorglin (15km).
Fishing: Great sports for salmon and sea-trout on the local Caragh River and lake as well as the internationally reputed Waterville Lake (37 km). If you have any queries do not hesitate to ask your landlord he is a dedicated fisherman and a member of the local club. Good seasonal fishing for bass and sea-trout on local Rossbeigh beach or in Waterville (37 km), St. Fintan´s Bay (35 km) or Inch (60 km). In summer and autumn there is good mackrele fishing off the cliffs in Kells and Valentia Island.
Watersports: Local Rossbeigh beach is one of the best beaches in Ireland, 6 km long,sandy, safe, top quality, "blue flag", and even supervised by lifeguards at peak times. It is most suitable for swimming, canoeing, kiting etc.
Glenbeigh also offers facilities for hang-gliders and has two bike rental places, a sports-complex and new tennis-courts. (Supposed to be finished for the 09 season) Hill-walking/mountain-climbing: the house is situated right at the famous "Kerry Walk" and ideally suitable for all kind of walking, mainly because the tarmaced road comes to an end here and all you will find are sheep, horses and walkers.
