Local activities in and around Conwy, North Wales
Conwy is centrally located for many activites be it taking in the history of the areas, golf, walking, cycling, spending time on the beach or even a trip across the sea to Dublin via the fast ferry from Holyhead.
Conwy is one of the finest examples of a medieval walled town in Europe. One of a string of fortresses built in the 13th century for Edward I, the castle, high upon a slab of Welsh rock remains pretty much intact.
Aberconwy House dates back to 14th century and believed to be the oldest surviving townhouse in Wales and just a small short walk away. Plas Mawr, the Elizabethan townhouse with its individual tower and interior plaster work.
Thomas Telford, one of Britian's greatest civil engineers, built Conwy's suspension bridge in 1826, which you can still see today.
Conwy also has the smallest house in Britain, it was on 'in-fill' fisherman's cottage. It also boasts over 200 listed buildings within its walls.
Conwy has a packed calendar of events, from the Conwy River Festival in August, the Honey Fair that's been running for over 700 years and the October Food Festival.
Conwy provides for a sandy beach and beyond the cobbled streets and bustling quay, a 500 berth marina, butterfly jungle and the RSPB Nature reserve and champion golf course.
Follow the Conwy river down the valley to find Bodnant's beautiful gardens, the market town of Llanrwst, Betws-Y-Coed, surrounded by warerfalls and dense forests, Snowdonia National Park and many other villages to enjoy unspoilt contryside by foot or cycle.
A few miles from Conwy, lays the Victorian seaside town of Llandudno. Offering beaches, shopping, restaurants, bars, world class theatre and walks along the impressive esplanade. The Great Orme jets out into the Irish sea and is home to a Bronze Age mine and Neolithic burial chamber. A cable or tramway takes you up and a dry ski slope for a quick descent!
