Le Mouy Vieux is set on a gently sloping south-facing hillside in the Livradois Forez national park, a beautiful and quiet area of the Auvergne, yet only 15 kms from the A75 autoroute & Issoire, and 30 minutes south of the cathedral city of Clermont-Ferrand.
There are two separate, tastefully furnished gites; Maison Marguerite sleeps 2-5 (2 in annexe for a small supplement) and Maison Blanche (sleeps 2-3) available for rent individualy or together, both with good-sized living/dining areas, well-equipped kitchens, generous bedroom space and modern bathrooms.

Le Mouy Vieux is situated in a peaceful location, 2kms to the west of the small village of Le Vernet la Varenne, here you can buy delicious croissants from the artisan boulangerie, there is a good butchers, small supermarket, pharmacy, tabac & bar.
Le Mouy Vieux is a lovely place for your holiday base; to relax, to enjoy the many old hilltop villages and historic towns nearby, go walking or cycling in the hills or explore the varied attractions of the Auvergne.
The gites are charming, tastefully furnished and are like home-away-from-home, with comfortable sofa's, TV's, DVD's and CD players, books & board games. The dining areas have tables and chairs to seat four and each gite has its own terrace with barbecue, table, chairs and sun loungers.
The kitchens are well equipped with gas hob, microwave oven & grill, toaster, refrigerator. Laundry & ironing facilities are available. All beds are made up for your arrival.
There is an annexe above Maison Marguerite accessed via a staircase from the main terrace and is ideal for those who want to have separate sleeping quarters e.g. teenagers, grandparents, or au pair. Baby-cots are available.
Outside are lovely sunny terraces leading to extensive private lawned gardens with flower beds and shady trees complete with hammock, gazebo and large swing-seat to enjoy the stunning views of the Cantal mountains and the Parc des Volcans.
There is a secure garage with two mountain-bikes for your use (or bring your own) and ample parking.

Local activities in and around Issoire, Limousin/Auvergne
Close by, in Le Vernet la Varenne, 2kms, there is an excellent, small lake "Plan d'Eau" and beach with supervised bathing, pedalo's, fishing, boules pitch and tennis court. Birdwatching, cycling, walking, horse-riding and during the summer there are numerous organised events including brocantes, festivals and fireworks, art exhibitions and local community dances/evenings.
There is plenty to do for the energetic, within a short distance you will find watersports such as white water rafting & canoeing, and in winter, skiing, ice climbing and husky pulled sledge rides.
The area is fantastic for more leisurely pursuits, take the cheese trails & sample famous local cheeses, such as Blue d'auvergne, forme d'ambert, cantal & St nectaire to name a few. Explore villages, forts & chateaux perched atop small extinct volcanic peaks known as Puy's. Try a thermal spa.
The end of every August a famous International music festival is held at nearby Chaise Dieu abbaye. Issoire the nearest town with its pretty colourful painted houses, specialist shops down narrow winding streets, is known as the doorway to the south.
A superb market is held every Saturday morning. There are many cafes & restaurants, a shopping mall with a good range of boutiques & large supermarket. Also swimming pool, sports, bowling and leisure centre. The beautiful romanesque church of Saint Austromoine is well worth a visit.
Le Mouy Vieux has amazing horizons and overlooks the stunning peaks of the Puy de Dome, Mont Dore and Sancy, in the Parc des Volcans. Only a short drive away, they are a favourite for winter sports enthusiasts, and hide away some of the treasures of the southern Auvergne such as the beautiful Lac Chambon and the wonderful spa town of La Bourboule.
From Clermont-Ferrand: Leave A75/E11 at Junction 13 Issoire head out on D996 towards Parentignat then D999 to Le Vernet la Varenne. Le Mouy Vieux is 2kms before the village.
