A charmingly restored 17th Century Oak Beamed Cottage with stunning views over tranquil countryside with pool, sleeps 2 - 6. Adjoins our other property Both properties can be rented either singly or together.
The ‘Cottage, barns, lawns and pool are situated in the lovely undulating farmland and orchards of the Deux Sevres region of the Poitou Charentes. The property is situated between the village of Le Beugnon and the ancient town of Secondigny. The Cottage has been professionally restored to display its 17th century charms and yet is modern and comfortable with one of its three double bedrooms on ground floor level. The pool is fenced for child security.
If you are looking for a piece of paradise away from the hustle and bustle and stresses of modern life and yet only 5 minutes drive to civilisation then look no further. All you can hear is the hum of the bees and the numerous birdsongs as you lie in the sun and recharge your batteries.

The oak beamed Cottage, which sleeps 6, plus 2 on sofa bed, is surprisingly spacious. It contains a huge lounge, kitchen/dining room, a large shower room with wash basin and toilet and three bedrooms. Bedroom one, is a double room and is on ground floor level. Bedrooms two and three are large twin rooms, with original beamed ceilings. There is a sofa bed in the lounge and the cottage benefits from central heating and a wood burning stove.
The lounge has chairs and sofa and a sofa bed. The oak beams help to create a very relaxed and charming atmosphere. There is a large TV with DVD player and Playstation connected. There are a couple of Playstation games, but you are welcome to bring your own. Also, there are a varied selection of DVD's. supplied. A large selection of books are also available for your enjoyment.
The kitchen/dining room area is equipped with a table and stools comfortably seating eight people for family meals. The light, airy kitchen is well equipped with crockery, glasses, cutlery and cooking utensils. It also has the benefit of a fridge with freezer compartment, an electric cooker, a large dishwasher, a washer/dryer and a microwave, toaster and kettle.
The ground floor bedroom is very comfortable with a double pine bed, bedside lamps, wardrobe and a set of drawers. The two converted ‘grenier’ bedrooms are delightfully transformed, each displaying its original beams, but bright and surprisingly spacious. Each bedroom has pine twin beds, matching bedside cabinets and lamps, a hanging-wardrobe and under-bed drawers. The bedrooms are further complemented by the Velux windows which flood the rooms with light. One upstairs bedroom also has the advantage of having a combined TV/Video player and there are a large selection of videos to watch.
For parents with young children, there is a cot, high chair, baby bouncing cradle and safety gate.
The bathroom is a large walk-in shower room with a washbasin and toilet.

Local activities in and around Secondigny, Charente/Vendee/W. Loire
Within 3 miles you have the small town of Secondigny, with its 9th century church, asupermarket and many small shops.
Parthenay (11 miles) is a picturesque fortified town with excellent shops and restaurants around the Castle area. Head for the beautifully preserved Rue St Jacque, in the old town, which is part of the medieval route to Santiago de Compastella.
Niort (23 Miles) is a larger but equally interesting old town and is the capital of the Deux Sevres. Head for the old castle and dungeon and don’t miss the shopping in the old area opposite the castle. The Saturday morning food market is really alive!
FISHING
There are many lakes within close proximity and Pescalis which is the largest fishing centre in Europe, is also close by. (12 Miles) Pescalis is not just for fishermen but also a place for all the family, with an aquarium, tennis, horse-riding and other activities available The lake at Secondigny is also well stocked and has many large carp.
GOLF
There are three golf courses quite close by: The nearest 18 hole course is Golf du Petite Chene, about 12 miles away on the Niort - Parthenay Road. They speak English – phone 05 49 69 91 77.
The Club of Niort Romagne is a municipal 18 hole course, ideal for both beginners and experienced golfers. It is close to Niort town centre, near to the racetrack. Phone 05 49 09 01 41.
Golf Club Chateau des Forges. This is a 27 hole course playable all year. There is also swimming and tennis. Best route is via Parthenay on N149-E62 to La Ferriere en Parthenay, then turn right through Vasles and carry-on to Les Forges. Phone 05 49 69 91 77.
CYCLING
with many many miles of country lanes to explore this area around La Rourie is amongst the safest for cyclists.
WALKING
There are many miles of country lanes just ripe for exploring and the forest of Secondigny only a short distance away.
HORSERIDING
Horseriding is available at Le Beugnon just a few minutes drive away.
Directions for the Cottage and key pick up will be sent to you upon the final balance being paid.

Rental Notes: Changeover day is Saturday throughout the High Season but could be flexible at other times.
The Cottage is available from 4 pm and we ask that you vacate the premises by 10 on your departure day.
A deposit of 25% is required on booking and the balance to be paid 8 weeks prior to arrival. This deposit is non refundable in case of cancellation and you are advised to take out Insurance, to cover yourself in case of this eventuality and others including personal injury.
If booking within 8 weeks of the arrival date, the whole amount will be due on booking. A deposit of £100 is also required at the time of payment to cover accidental damage and breakages. This will be returned to you if upon inspection, the property is left in the condition it was in on your arrival. We require that you tidy and clean the property when you leave. A heating supplement of £25 per week is payable between October - April.
