The ruins of St Hildas Abbey, on the East Cliff were the setting for Bram Stokers "Dracula" and are open for you to explore.
Whitby has been home to many other famous people including Captain James Cook ( HM Bark Endeavour), the 18th Century explorer and voyager. A monument to Captain Cook can be found on the West Cliff and the Captain Cook museum is open for viewing on Grape Lane.
Famous for its fish and chips Whitby also has a large selection of award winning restaurants and bars.
Ruswarp Miniature Railway is located on the Carrs in Ruswarp along the side of the River Esk. With 2 Steam Trains and a Diesel it is a great place to come with the children and enjoy some old fashioned entertainment. The beautiful surroundings have a large grass area suitable for a picnics and a carp park. Open weekends from Easter to end of September and daily throughtout the summer holidays.
